MOD IDX GROUND BALANCE?

RWJR13

New member
Not sure if I'm ground balancing my Mod Idx correct. I have the instructions Mr. Bill sent with it. Anyone else have a problem balancing theirs? What is your procedure? I have a test silver quarter and silver dime buried at 6 in. and can't get a reading. The rest of my setting are normal, not too much power to overload. Won't even pinpoint at 6. Using 950 coil. Input would be appreciated......

#1... Frequency Shift

Well, that didn't work. All I get is a lot of popping noise and the icons just flash back and forth. Might work were your at but not here. Thanks still, I appreciate it.....

The IDX Pro is an awesome detector, and when modified by "Mr., Bill" it is something to be reckoned with!

But if you're having problems, you need to try a different search coil. It sounds like a faulty coil might be the problem. The steps Rob listed for adjusting the GB were spot-on and it's easy-to-do.

I would see how your detector does in an air test. if it discriminates and Id's OK and the threshold knob works as it should move on to practicing ground balance techniques. You can use a piece of ferrite to test the Ground balance in air as well.

If all works Ok the coil and detector is fine and I would look for a problem in the soil conditions or environment.
Check the batteries too!!!!!!!

Don't know whats going on. But I would think it should find that quarter. Question: Did it find it before the mods ???

Your more than welcome to return it to me, and I'll check it out. If it's a workmanship problem caused by my work, I certainly will take care of it for no charge to you.

If it's coming back, you need to phone me first,at 508-457-4805

Thanks
Bill

I didn't try it for that depth before Mr Bill. I know I was getting 4in though. I'm going to change coils and see what happens. I doubt that it's your workmanship. I appreciate it. If I have any more problems I will get in touch. Thank You Sir !!

Sounds like a coil problem. The IDX Pro runs very smooth even with slight improper adjustments to the GB. Does this happen everywhere or just in your own yard? My neighbors put in one of those invisible dog fences without me knowing it and and it drove all of my detectors crazy. I couldn't figure out what was going on for a long time.

Just in my yard so far. It has to be the coil. Workin' on honey-do's right now. I will try a 6in. coil later. Thanks Crazyman !!!!!!!

I agree i was able to recover 40 targets 5" deep in 1.5 hrs in a tough schoolyard lawn around trees. And the only tool i used was a 5 " screwdriver. The mods are proving to be critical in tough conditions. The stock IDX Pro had a hard time at this spot . Bills mods has my IDX pro doubling my finds in areas ive searched before. Its like going from a small car to a sports car scenario.

In order to preserve the lawns all targets were probed with a 5 inch screwdriver and removed by an opening no larger than the target. Areas are left undisturbed and unnoticable this way. Takes a little longer and risk scraches to coins, but you get good at pinpointing with the coil.

Thanks for all the great info guy's. Thats how we all get better with our detectors, asking questions and learning from others.........
