MONO coil for Explorer

Recently, for some unknown reason, I have received a lot of emails asking if we carry a MONO coil for the Explorer.
The answer is NO ! And I have a question ! Why in the name of all that is holy would you want a mono coil for an Explorer ?
Why don't you just buy a toy detector ?
Mono coils are fantastic on Gold machines, because we don't care about discrimination.
However, one of the most brilliant features on the Explorer is the ability to discriminate. How many of you are aware of the fact that you <STRONG>can not</STRONG> use the discrimination feature of a detector with a MONO coil ?
Therefore, if you could find a mono coil for an Explorer, you would give up your ability to discriminate and you would simply have to dig <FONT COLOR="#ff0000"><BIG><STRONG>EVERYTHING</STRONG></BIG></FONT> !
Are you willing to give up the ability to discriminate, for whatever perceived or imagined benefits you would get from a mono coil ?
Also remember, mono coils are noisier than DD coils, and do not handle mineralized ground as well. In fact there are some places where mono coils cannot run at all because the ground is too hot.
Merry Christmas!

maybe they are hunting in new jersey where it is against the law to find anything. <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">

Maybe they are phrasing it wrong and are really looking for a concentric coil.

well put Doc! I think some people would try to find any reason why they don't have success with MD'ing before they face the real reason - themselves. They'll blame the coil, the pinpointing, the batteries, the trash, and so on.
Everybody else is just lucky - right? <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">
No! hard work delivers results, when you choose the right place to hunt, and have the patience to not give up before you've given a spot the search it deserves.
Patience, hard work, research, knowing how to use your equipment and what it is telling you. These are all part of the formula for success in MD'ing.
That's my 2 cents!!!

If it is, then, what you posted should be true. It seems the 14" DD coil for the DFX is finding favor over the standard 950 concentric for those reasons you cited..............

VLF's always have a transmit coil winding and a separate receive coil winding of wire in the search head. Pulse Inuduction coils, however, can be produced in several variations. If the same winding is used for both the transmit and the receive signal, the coil is normally called a "MONO" coil.
When talking about a concentric coil there generally is a large transmit coil winding and a smaller receive coil winding basically centered inside the large transmit coil winding. For this type of coil to really work correctly on a VLF, there will be an additional transmit coil wound directly on the smaller receive coil, but will wound opposite to the main transmit coil. The purpose of the smaller transmit coil is to cancel any signal in the receive coil caused by the larger transmit coil A concentric coil design can be used for a PI, but it is rare to find one.
Hope that helps!
