More finds I got from Saturday's (6-13-09) & Sunday's (6-14-09) outings.

Hey there again everyone. Been really busy on this end and just got enough time to get my latest finds I found cleaned and posted from last Saturday and Sunday. Can you say More SILVER!!!:super:
Let's get to it!

Saturday was a packed full car of hungry detectorist's just waiting to get some Silver and whatever else we could get our grubby little hands on. All that went was Tim, Dale, Dan, and myself so space was very limited and we all knew that we were going to bring back some Silver and other goodies on this trip.

We set out and stopped at a Ball Field that looked like it could be older since it had some older playground equipment nearby. It didn't take Tim very long to score the first Silver for the day....which of course had to be a 1944 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. We hunted this Diamond for quite awhile with some goodies being found. We all found some Silver in this spot so we know that there is probably more if we were to go back and do a tight pattern to the area. Wheats, Merc's, Rosie's were the main finds here. I also found a Clad Kennedy Half here (just my luck having it not being Silver).

Before we got to this site, we stopped off at the gas station for some beverages and snacks. I went to pay for my stuff and Tim and Dale were behind me. The guy looks at us and then says "you guys must be with the Carnival!". I stood there for a second and didn't know what to think! I then started to  and Tim then replies "I'm not but he is (as he is looking at Dale)" which made me laugh even harder. The cashier couldn't help but laugh also. This would be a highlight of the day which I will never forget since it was just too comical! We headed to the Park thinking this guy was just giving us a bad time since we were from out of town but that wasn't the case at all. As we got to the Park, we soon found out that the Carnival was in fact in town and set up in a section of the Park we wanted to hunt at. It didn't stop us so we just hunted other area's and the area where we had already hunted before. This site was the Park that we have been finding tons of Wheats in the Teen's and Barber Coinage that must be over 30+ so far. Dan was excited to get out to this spot since he knew what Tim, Dale, and myself have been finding here. Main Objective for Dan = Barber! This was Dan's first time out for a full day of detecting this year due to a bad shoulder so he was the most eager to land a Barber in his pouch. We all hunted this Park for a few hours and still was able to pull a massive amount of Coins from practically the same area's where we have hunted before. I noticed that you had to hit a lot of the targets at certain directions and if you didn't.....well......you didn't get a signal since most targets were in the 11"-12" Range which is mainly just a Warble of a Signal at best.....if your lucky! We did very well here again. Dale got 3 Barber Dimes, 4 Merc's, a couple Indian Heads and a bunch of Wheats. Tim found 2 Barber Dimes, a few Merc's, a bunch more Wheats, and a Sterling Silver Bracelet that had the name Orlin Nelson with Airborne underneath the name. It was a heavy piece of Jewelery and was a fantastic find to uncover. Dan was able to pull out a Super Nice 1914-d Barber Dime with Full Liberty, 3 Merc's (if I remember right), and a bunch of Wheats. I found 2 Barber Dimes (one being in the same hole as a 1905 Liberty V-Nickel), 4 Merc's, a few Indian Heads, and a bunch more Wheats. Another successful hunt at this Park and there is still a ton more to detect.

We then headed out to search a couple neighboring towns out to see if there was any other Parks close by. We found an older Church so we decided to try this for a few minutes. Tim found 3 Wheats all in the Teen's next to the sidewalk here in the yard side. I came along and detected the other side of the sidewalk and was rewarded with a Silver Quarter, 2 Merc's, a Token, and a few Wheats. Dale sat in the car to rest and Dan was able to find a Wheatie or 2. Tim also got a few other Wheats at another Church across the street and a Merc on the way back to the car.

We then headed to another town since it was starting to get very late in the day and we only had about an hour or so of daylight left. We found an Old Ball Diamond in this town and we decided to see if there was anything in it. Tim gets out of the car and walks directly to his first find......a Freakin' 1910 Barber Half Dollar that was about 14" Deep!!! Only 418,000 of these were minted and his had Liberty on it making it between a $85-$160 find.:veryangry: We continued hunting....all a little disgusted with Tim's luck:sick:......trying to score something good from here as well. We hunted this until dark with Tim finding a Very Large Silver Ring (one I passed up thinking it was a Clad Coin on the surface):puke: and the NICEST Standing Liberty Quarter I have ever seen dug!:surprised: He pulled a 1920-d that was EF Easy for a grade which is worth around $150.....making his 2nd Key Date Coin Find of the day. After that find, Tim almost didn't make it back home since I was already plotting something evil for him. Dan never found anything here old which was a bummer. Dale got a Merc, a Silver Quarter and a Wheatie I believe. I ended up finding a Barber Quarter, 2 Indian Heads, a Merc, and a Token to end the day. I also got the Misc. Item that has Compliments Of I. Cohien & Co Elgin, ILL on the back and a pic of a Woman on it on the front here. It was at least 14" in the ground and was hoping for a Half but it is a great find none the less. Then we headed on home with another very successful hunt under our belts. Congrats to Dale, Tim, and Dan for a great time out detecting and all the great finds found once again. Totals on Saturday for me were 13 Silver, 2 Tokens, 1 V-Nickel, 40 Wheats, and 6 Injuns.

Sunday, I headed out solo, hoping to add to my totals for the weekend. I ended up going further than I should have for finds but didn't realize this until on the way back.

First stop was a Park. It was a Park that I have never been in so I didn't know what to expect. There were older houses on one side of the street so it had to be old. I noticed that the one side of the street was lined up with chairs and bleachers which meant there was about to be a parade or something else going on soon here. I did a quick check and was only able to nab 2 Wheats (both in the 20's) and a Cracker Jack Token. I then headed to a town I had already passed earlier.

Here, I decided to try the Fairgrounds since Tim told me he had found some Silver Rosie's and a few Merc's here awhile back. I got out and started hunting. I got along a road and started hitting Deep Wheats. All the Wheats were in the Teen's so I knew there had to be Barber in that area. I finally got a good 28 on Digital that showed Deep and dug it. Out pop's a 1906-O Barber Dime.:jump: Then I recovered a 1902 Indian Head just a little ways from that spot. I also was able to pull a few Merc's, a Rosie, a Silver Quarter, an Older Jefferson Nickel, and a Token from other area's of the Fairgrounds. After awhile, I decided to head to the Park.

Here, I was able to find a few early Wheats in the Teen's, one a 1915-d which is a better date. I also got 4 Wheats and a Merc in the same hole. I also found a few more Wheats before I left. Total finds for Sunday was 2 Tokens, 7 Silver, 1 Injun, I Older Jefferson Nickel, and 23 Wheats. Another good solid run on finds!

Here is the totals for both days and what they were. I got 20 Silver again!!!:yikes: They consisted of 1 Barber Quarter dated 1906-d, 2 Washington Quarters dated 1945,1945-d, 3 Barber Dimes dated 1906-o,1911-d,1912-d, 10 Merc's dated 1918-d,1920-d,1929,1934-d,1936-d,1941,1941-d,1943-d,(2)1945-d, and 4 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1946,1946-d,1957-d and 1960-d. For Tokens, I got 4 of them. They are a Good For 25c In Trade / Hammer Mercantile Company Nunda, S.D., Front of Aluminum Token probably read something like Good For 1 Pint Milk Pasteurized / Fort Dodge Creamery Co Fort Dodge, Iowa, a Good For 5c In Trade / Waldowski's Place Herman, Minn. and the Cracker Jack Token of John Tyler. I was able to recover 2 Nickels which were 1 Liberty V-Nickel dated 1905 and 1 Jefferson Nickel dated 1957-d which was a surface Coin. I was also able to pull a Clad Kennedy Half Dollar dated 1989-d. For Indian Heads, I dug 7 of them. They are dated 1891,(2)1895,1902,1905 and (2)1907. Wheats consisted of another 63 of them and they are dated (2)10,11,11-d,(2)12,15-d,16-d,17,17-s,18,18-d,18-s,(3)19,(6)19-s,2?,2?-s,20,21,25-d,27,(2)27-d,28,(3)29,(4)29-d,33-d,34,34-d,(3)35-d,(2)36-d,(3)37-d,(2)44,44-d,44-s,45,45-d,(2)46-d,(2)47-d,48-d,51-d,52-d and 56-d. For Misc. Items, I got the Whatzit Item that reads Compliments Of I. Cohien & Co Elgin, ILL. on the back and on the front has a pic of a woman doing some gardening most likely, 2 Keys, a Copper Ring, a Religious Pendant and an Aluminum Heart without a name on it. Well! That does it for this time. Hope you enjoyed the Pics and thanks as always for looking. Good Luck and HH to you all on your next adventures outdoors![attachment 130179 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 130168 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 130181 DirtyTokens.jpg][attachment 130173 CleanedTokensFront.jpg][attachment 130175 CleanedTokensBack.jpg][attachment 130186 DirtyNickelsampInjuns.jpg][attachment 130187 CleanedNickelsampInjuns.jpg][attachment 130182 DirtyWheats.jpg][attachment 130165 CleanedWheats.jpg][attachment 130183 DirtyMisc..jpg][attachment 130177 CleanedMisc..jpg][attachment 130184 UnknownItemFront.jpg][attachment 130185 UnknownItemBack.jpg]

Sounds like you all had a great time as I talk to Tim Dale and Dan and Dan and Dale were a bit stiff after the big hunt on Saturday as they are not used to it plus they are like me and getting older and our bones start aching sooner than yours will, but soon you too will get old and will know what we mean.

That misc item with the lady on front I believe is a match safe that a book of match were kept so they didnt get wet or crushed in you pocket. If it is I am sure it is very collectable item and the first i seen with advertising on it.

It is always awesome to see your post every week, how many silver and IH have you found in the last month, must be close to 100 silver?

My best was 70 Silver but it seems I am blowing that out of the water. As long as I get at least 12 more Silver, I will be happy with whatever I find this weekend. The Misc. Item is pretty neat. Thought for sure it was going to be a Deep Half Dollar but it don't matter......it's a great item for Relic/Collectible. Thanks for the reply Rick and hope your getting out somewhere and findind a few more things. Good Luck and HH.

20 silvers in a weekend, is that all?? :) Seriously, nice haul as usual. I wonder just how many you guys could accumulate in a years time up there if it stayed warm enough for you to get out during the winter months.

When will the madness end???? Hopefully, not for awhile. Having a ton of fun digging all these Old Coins and can't wait until tomorrow to see what I haul home next. Thanks for the reply Ron and Good Luck and HH to you this weekend if you get out.

In reality, I suppose a person could find around 400 or more Silver if it wasn't for winter months, just depends how often a person would go out and make finds that's all. My best is 323 Silver for a year and hope to crush that this year and maybe hit 400 but we will see. Glad you liked another round of finds and Good Luck and HH to you on your next outing.:detecting:

Seriously though, it really shows what still is out there if you have the right gear, knowledge of an area, and a lot of luck on your side to find these great spots to hunt at. Can't wait to hit the next near virgin site and see what that one holds. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

has been using my settings and his Silver Ratio has gone way up versus Wheats and other Coins. He's loving every time out and sends me pics of his finds every so often. It's really rewarding to me to see others having more luck using my settings or any other info that I have shared with them. That's the best part of posting on here.......to help others and see their finds increase.

The sites we keep hitting sure are producing a ton of finds. I think for the most part the finds are still at these sites is due to the Extreme Depth that they are at.....which the Explorer Line of Detectors have capabilities of reaching while other brands have a tough time doing. Sure keeps getting interesting though bringing home all this Silver!

I'm hoping to bring home 10 Silver this weekend but who knows what will happen. I also have a theory on why a lot of finds are still at these spots but that is a little secret that I might have to save for at least a little while longer. Glad you liked the finds Bryce and I will try and dig a few Silver's for you this weekend. Good Luck and HH to you on your next outing my friend.

More nice finds indeed James.:clapping: You are certainly kicking butt on the silver this year and all I can say is congrats buddy. Your XS is fined tuned for sure at sniffing out the ncie silver.:detecting: Can't tell you how much it hurts me to see some nice posts being posted on the forum when I can't get out yet to do some serious detecting myself, but I'm glad to see that you and others can get out. Not sure how long it will be before I can get out as you know what I have been through. Best of luck on your next outing my friend. HH.

Whenever you are able to get out and do some detecting Eddie, I hope during that hunt you get that ellusive Seated that you have yet to find. I also hope it's a BIG ONE!!! Just take it easy until you get your strength back and the rest of the body back to normal, than go slow and only go on short hunts since you don't want to overdue it. Hope you can get out soon and thanks for the reply buddy. Take care and Good Luck and HH to you Eddie.

Congratulations on all the great finds this weekend James.:clapping:
It's hard to fathom the depths that the Explorers can detect coins
but like you, I have seen dug and also detected some pretty deep
coins and jewelery myself. Great pics and story as usual. Enjoyed
the post. Gold Nuggets :wiggle:

Congratulations on all the coins and other finds. What a great weekend. I especially like the tokens and that "whatzit". The whatzit looks like a key holder or maybe a money clip. It looks like the woman is looking at her reflection in the water and almost looks art nouveau (1890-1905) in style. I wish you continued success and happy hunting!

The Whatzit item is a neat find and wish I could find out for sure what it is. I don't think it's a Key Holder since there is nothing inside for Keys to attach to. The right side might have had a pin of some sort to keep the item shut but not for sure. Interesting find anyways. I like finding Tokens myself since then a person has a little bit of history from that specific town. Some can be worth a lot of money also. Glad you liked my finds and thanks for the reply. Good Luck and HH.

It sure is an eye opener when you get a deep target and your down about 8" in the ground and still can't find anything with the X-1 Probe, then dig down another 3"and start to get a good signal. The Wheats and the Dimes are the shockers and have been finding them in the 10"-12" Range. Coins this deep are tough to pick up and who knows how many other Coins we pass up due to choppy signals. Glad you enjoyed my finds and story once again. Hope you get out and find some goodies real soon. Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

Hi James-
I wonder if the whatzit may be a holder for calling cards (these are about the size of a business card) or maybe postage stamps. I've seen card and stamp holders that look similar to the whatzit. Tokens are also really cool and sometimes better to find than coins. Collecting tokens is what got me into detecting. At one older park site, I was getting frustrated at digging a bunch of newer pennies and the next penny hit turned out to be a scarce Ohio transportation token that lists for over $50. That's why i still dig pennies. Got to love this hobby. HH

You never know what the target will be unless you dig it so digging Deeper Penny Hits is a must since it could also be a Silver Ring or even a Silver Coin itself. The Whatzit Item turns out to be an Old Note Pad. The Round part on the one edge was for a small pencil to fit into. Don't know how the paper stayed in but apparently that is what this item is. Now get out there and dig some Tokens!!!;) Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:
