Hey there again everyone. Been really busy on this end and just got enough time to get my latest finds I found cleaned and posted from last Saturday and Sunday. Can you say More SILVER!!!
Let's get to it!
Saturday was a packed full car of hungry detectorist's just waiting to get some Silver and whatever else we could get our grubby little hands on. All that went was Tim, Dale, Dan, and myself so space was very limited and we all knew that we were going to bring back some Silver and other goodies on this trip.
We set out and stopped at a Ball Field that looked like it could be older since it had some older playground equipment nearby. It didn't take Tim very long to score the first Silver for the day....which of course had to be a 1944 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. We hunted this Diamond for quite awhile with some goodies being found. We all found some Silver in this spot so we know that there is probably more if we were to go back and do a tight pattern to the area. Wheats, Merc's, Rosie's were the main finds here. I also found a Clad Kennedy Half here (just my luck having it not being Silver).
Before we got to this site, we stopped off at the gas station for some beverages and snacks. I went to pay for my stuff and Tim and Dale were behind me. The guy looks at us and then says "you guys must be with the Carnival!". I stood there for a second and didn't know what to think! I then started to
and Tim then replies "I'm not but he is (as he is looking at Dale)" which made me laugh even harder.
The cashier couldn't help but laugh also.
This would be a highlight of the day which I will never forget since it was just too comical! We headed to the Park thinking this guy was just giving us a bad time since we were from out of town but that wasn't the case at all. As we got to the Park, we soon found out that the Carnival was in fact in town and set up in a section of the Park we wanted to hunt at. It didn't stop us so we just hunted other area's and the area where we had already hunted before. This site was the Park that we have been finding tons of Wheats in the Teen's and Barber Coinage that must be over 30+ so far. Dan was excited to get out to this spot since he knew what Tim, Dale, and myself have been finding here. Main Objective for Dan = Barber! This was Dan's first time out for a full day of detecting this year due to a bad shoulder so he was the most eager to land a Barber in his pouch. We all hunted this Park for a few hours and still was able to pull a massive amount of Coins from practically the same area's where we have hunted before. I noticed that you had to hit a lot of the targets at certain directions and if you didn't.....well......you didn't get a signal since most targets were in the 11"-12" Range which is mainly just a Warble of a Signal at best.....if your lucky! We did very well here again. Dale got 3 Barber Dimes, 4 Merc's, a couple Indian Heads and a bunch of Wheats. Tim found 2 Barber Dimes, a few Merc's, a bunch more Wheats, and a Sterling Silver Bracelet that had the name Orlin Nelson with Airborne underneath the name. It was a heavy piece of Jewelery and was a fantastic find to uncover. Dan was able to pull out a Super Nice 1914-d Barber Dime with Full Liberty, 3 Merc's (if I remember right), and a bunch of Wheats. I found 2 Barber Dimes (one being in the same hole as a 1905 Liberty V-Nickel), 4 Merc's, a few Indian Heads, and a bunch more Wheats. Another successful hunt at this Park and there is still a ton more to detect.
We then headed out to search a couple neighboring towns out to see if there was any other Parks close by. We found an older Church so we decided to try this for a few minutes. Tim found 3 Wheats all in the Teen's next to the sidewalk here in the yard side. I came along and detected the other side of the sidewalk and was rewarded with a Silver Quarter, 2 Merc's, a Token, and a few Wheats. Dale sat in the car to rest and Dan was able to find a Wheatie or 2. Tim also got a few other Wheats at another Church across the street and a Merc on the way back to the car.
We then headed to another town since it was starting to get very late in the day and we only had about an hour or so of daylight left. We found an Old Ball Diamond in this town and we decided to see if there was anything in it. Tim gets out of the car and walks directly to his first find......a Freakin' 1910 Barber Half Dollar that was about 14" Deep!!! Only 418,000 of these were minted and his had Liberty on it making it between a $85-$160 find.:veryangry: We continued hunting....all a little disgusted with Tim's luck
......trying to score something good from here as well. We hunted this until dark with Tim finding a Very Large Silver Ring (one I passed up thinking it was a Clad Coin on the surface)
uke: and the NICEST Standing Liberty Quarter I have ever seen dug!
He pulled a 1920-d that was EF Easy for a grade which is worth around $150.....making his 2nd Key Date Coin Find of the day.
After that find, Tim almost didn't make it back home since I was already plotting something evil for him.
Dan never found anything here old which was a bummer.
Dale got a Merc, a Silver Quarter and a Wheatie I believe. I ended up finding a Barber Quarter, 2 Indian Heads, a Merc, and a Token to end the day. I also got the Misc. Item that has Compliments Of I. Cohien & Co Elgin, ILL on the back and a pic of a Woman on it on the front here. It was at least 14" in the ground and was hoping for a Half but it is a great find none the less. Then we headed on home with another very successful hunt under our belts. Congrats to Dale, Tim, and Dan for a great time out detecting and all the great finds found once again.
Totals on Saturday for me were 13 Silver, 2 Tokens, 1 V-Nickel, 40 Wheats, and 6 Injuns.
Sunday, I headed out solo, hoping to add to my totals for the weekend. I ended up going further than I should have for finds but didn't realize this until on the way back.
First stop was a Park. It was a Park that I have never been in so I didn't know what to expect. There were older houses on one side of the street so it had to be old. I noticed that the one side of the street was lined up with chairs and bleachers which meant there was about to be a parade or something else going on soon here. I did a quick check and was only able to nab 2 Wheats (both in the 20's) and a Cracker Jack Token. I then headed to a town I had already passed earlier.
Here, I decided to try the Fairgrounds since Tim told me he had found some Silver Rosie's and a few Merc's here awhile back. I got out and started hunting. I got along a road and started hitting Deep Wheats. All the Wheats were in the Teen's so I knew there had to be Barber in that area. I finally got a good 28 on Digital that showed Deep and dug it. Out pop's a 1906-O Barber Dime.
Then I recovered a 1902 Indian Head just a little ways from that spot. I also was able to pull a few Merc's, a Rosie, a Silver Quarter, an Older Jefferson Nickel, and a Token from other area's of the Fairgrounds. After awhile, I decided to head to the Park.
Here, I was able to find a few early Wheats in the Teen's, one a 1915-d which is a better date. I also got 4 Wheats and a Merc in the same hole. I also found a few more Wheats before I left. Total finds for Sunday was 2 Tokens, 7 Silver, 1 Injun, I Older Jefferson Nickel, and 23 Wheats. Another good solid run on finds!
Here is the totals for both days and what they were. I got 20 Silver again!!!
They consisted of 1 Barber Quarter dated 1906-d, 2 Washington Quarters dated 1945,1945-d, 3 Barber Dimes dated 1906-o,1911-d,1912-d, 10 Merc's dated 1918-d,1920-d,1929,1934-d,1936-d,1941,1941-d,1943-d,(2)1945-d, and 4 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1946,1946-d,1957-d and 1960-d. I was able to recover 2 Nickels which were 1 Liberty V-Nickel dated 1905 and 1 Jefferson Nickel dated 1957-d which was a surface Coin. I was also able to pull a Clad Kennedy Half Dollar dated 1989-d.
