More silver finds for the month plus a Civil War token

Been detecting a lot this last month with my Explorer II since the wife is on vacation. My specialty is to hunt yards in old homes. I had gotten permission to search a few yards including the post previous about the multitude of silver. Here are finds in other yards during the last month:

Went to Marietta, Ohio to visit Mom and Dad and got in a few hours of detecting. Went to a yard I searched last year and found a few good coins and a Merc in the front. Now I wanted to go to the back. Well it did not disappoint. I found a 1943d Mercury and a token I could not identify. Went home and cleaned the token and noticed a shield on the front with the word Union. Around the top was the words One Country. And after a lot of cleaning there was a date of 1864. On the back was Fauley & Brechbill Dry goods Clothing & Groceries Uniontown O. If this site comes up this is a picture of the back. Mine has a different front.

Went to a different house when done and the first signal was a sweet sound, but there seemed to be multiple signals. Pinpointed the best I could and within about 7 inches came up 5 silver dimes: 1941 Merc, 1950 1952 1956 and 1957 Roosies.

Went back to Marietta the following weekend and chose a different street to search. And ended up finding: 1905 Barber, 1942 Merc, 10 Wheat 1917 to 1946.

Was finding so much there I decided on that 2 hour drive one more time to visit Mom and Dad since they were leaving for Florida, but did find time to swing the detector. Went to a yard I detected as a teenager and found a lot of coins. Went back and the first coin was an Indian Head. Ended up find 4 Indian Heads there: 1883 1888 1900 and 1904. Also found a 1938d Buffalo and 6 Wheat 1910 1911 1920 1921 1947d and 1949d.

In between Marietta visits I hunted back in Morgantown, WV and found the following in a few yards here as well: One yard produced 1936 Quarter along with a Sacagawea Dollar coin, my first. Another yard produced a 1960d Roos and a 1883 Indian Head. One day and 3 yards later produced 4 Mercury dimes 1918s 1923 1935s and 1941, 2 Roosies 1951 and 1964d, 2 Indian Heads 1901 and 1906, and 9 Wheats.

Yesterday concluded with a yard producing a 1950d quarter and a 1941 Merc. Posted all pictures to the max of what I could in this post.

Hope everyone enjoyed this as much as I did. My Wife is gone for another 3 weeks so I hope to find more silver; need a seated coin!!!

That, combined with your other post, is quite the silver haul! :yo: Congrats.

That is a heck of a lot of coins, especially silver ones - way to go! That is a neat token too - it is Fuld number OH 890-2A. It is scarcer than the one on the Stack's website that you referenced. The Stack's token is an R5, where yours is an R7 (between 10-20 known). Nice finds and happy hunting.

Older private yards, IMHO, are the most un'Explorer'ed/virgin pieces of turf left to detect in our country. The key is gaining permission to hunt them.

Congrats on making the most of those yards you got to detect.

Great bunch of finds--congratulations! I really need to be more aggressive and ask permission to hunt some local yards. Thanks for the story and pictures.

Thanks for the info!! The picture does not do justice. It is a little worn since being in the ground for over 100 years.

I have a philosophy about hunting yards. All they can do is tell me no; and I just move on to the next yard. When I approach the home I ask the person if it is ok to search for old coins in their yard. I tell them I have searched other yards in the area and have found some nice pennies and dimes. If I have been in the neighborhood I even mention the name or point to the homes I have done there. I show them my plastic and tell them I fill in all holes and take all trash out with me. I tell them my goal is for them not to know I have ever been there. I them tell them if I find gold I will share. I ask them if they lost anything I will try to locate. I even stay and chat for a while if they are willing. I build rapport so they feel comfortable.

I made a call last night to a older home for rent and at first the man told me no, nothing personal but does not want someone in his yard. I continued to chat and asked what he wanted for rent. I said I just applied for a job in Albuquerque, but if do not get would keep in mind. He asked what I do and I told him I work for the Government and have been all over the world. He asked about my job. I explained I have been to Iraq and Afghanistan for the Government. Well he then said I can detect his property. If I would not have just talked and put him at ease I would not be able to go there. I plan on hitting it tomorrow and will post any good finds.
