More Updates of Brian's Battle

We had a smooth flight and are settling into our ICU unit for the night. Brian has only bled a small amount since leaving Children's. Because the bleeding appears to have tapered off they are going to monitor his blood levels over the next twelve hours. They want him in ICU in case he has a sudden major blood loss.

A long night.

2am: Brian has another serious bleeding episode and his levels drop to 27. The ICU nurse said they usually transfuse when the levels are below 30.

There is one IV in his left hand that was being used for fluids and meds but another was needed for the transfusion. Four nurses tried four places and couldn't get the IV to work.

Brian's veins would collapse when they tried to flush it so we gave up and used the existing IV. It was around 3am when the transfusion began.

5am: I awoke to the sound of Brian beating on the bed rail. He was having another bleeding episode and he lost quite a bit of blood. The nurse said she had already ordered another unit of blood so they started that one at around 5:45am.

Thanks for your prayers.

Surgery by an author.

The surgeon performing Brian's next angiogram, either today or
tomorrow, literally wrote the book on the procedure. The text book
that is. The text book used in medical schools to train on this
procedure.

Here is the link to his website:
http://www.sfsinvent.com/DrJohnBuddyConnors.shtml

He came by and introduced himself and explained what this
surgery would entail along with the associated risks.

I'll update the time of the surgery as soon as we get it
scheduled.
