More Wheaties...

Pete in MI

New member
went to the field next to the school...someone said get there and do the field before they start hauling dirt away...so went down there to see if I might detect it...figured the grass and weeds might be too high to do anything.

I was pleasantly surprised to see someone on one of those big riding lawnmowers cutting the grass in the vacant lot. I stopped him and chatted him up. Seems the mileage for the fire department didn't pass...no building is going to be constructed there any time soon.

So while he was cutting the grass so I can detect it tomorrow or soon, I went back to the school. 8 Wheaties: 1 - 1917, 1 - 1924, 2 - 1939, 1 - 1941, 2 - 1944 and a 1945. 2 Memorial pennies, a 1955 Nickel, a button and a pin which migh be Santa with a pack on his back or something.

That is 3 buttons so far from there...never got a button before anywhere with any detector I've owned...is it the :minelab: or just being at the right place.

I couldn't even sleep tonight if I had a spot so close to home that is just freshly mowed and was an old Ballfield. I can almost see your post tomorrow if you get out there and detect that lot. SILVER, SILVER, and more SILVER! I wish you Good Luck and HH Pete. Oh, and by the way, NICE FINDS! I almost forgot that due to getting excited about the great news. :detecting:

this time with some bug spray...now I know why we have our own airport..someplace for the mosquitoes to do practicve take offs and landings...never seen mosquitoes this big or so agressive. Gotta pack the insect spray when I go to that ball field. I'll have to get a pic and post it of this old ballfield.

looking forward to silver. I almost missed the nickel because the sound didn't get higher but I can't remember now if it nulled or it went low but was repeatable so decided to dig it anyway. I wonder how many others I walked over thinking 'if it isn't a high flutey sound, ignore it'.

I'm going to have to go back over the same area sometime and do just nulls and low tones. I had the sound set for ferrous. I did have Pulltabs Xed out so don't know if that is why the nickel was different or what. Less than 15 hours on this machine and still have a lot to learn.

The area I was hitting was the path area between the school and the ball field...figured someone had to have dropped something and I was right.
