mortar tail

was out a couple oh weeks ago and found this little item,
a mortar tail section dated 1935-1943.
it was approx 9" down and lying on its side,just as well really as i wouldnt of liked to find the end that goes bang.

That's an awesome find. Was it in a field? Pasture?? Town ?
