Reverse the the question.......where does jewelry read on a detector? Well, gold tends to read often times around where the pulltab reads. So, the general rule is if you dig a lot of targets around this icon, you will get more gold. Silver reads in the 80's, so that would include rings, broaches, large chains. But.......chains are difficult to read on any detector, often times just a scratchy audio. That's a challenge in itself, as sooooooo many junk targets also give off just a scratch. Many rings today are made of stainless steel. Guess what? They can read in the iron range.
So, jewelry can show up nearly anywhere. So, the next hint to get jewelry, is to dig all stable coin sized sounding targets. By stable I mean getting the same signal when the coil goes over the target in multiple directions. Coin sized target? Well, if you practice swinging your coil over a coin, and keep raising the coil at the same time, you will notice at a certain height, the signal fades out. Now try a pop can. Notice the difference in height? Also notice the length of time and strength of the audio while the coil goes over a target. This will also give you a hint as to it's size. If using a concentric coil, you can also guestimate a target's size by holding the pinpoint button, and sliding the coil towards you and watching the point where the inner coil audio suddenly cuts out. Now do the same only move the coil away from you, and see where the target again cuts out. On a small target, the point at which the audio cuts cuts out beyween the two audio cutoff points will be small. On a large target distance between the audio cut off points will be large. This is one of the reasons why I prefer concentric coils over "DD" coils. They give me more information on a target, with better accuracy.
Hunt places where jewelry tends to get lost. Water, places where there are large people group gatherings, places where people drink a lot of alcohol and/or places where people do a lot of physical movement. ieDancing, aerobics, running.
Being success for jewelry hunting relies on places with better probabilities, but most of all, learning your detector very well. The AT Series are excellent machines for picking out jewelry. For the AT GOLD, hunting in zero disc. would be my 1st choice. If the area is laden with a lot of junky targets, use coin mode. When searching for jewelry, you end up digging a lot of junk! A very high "junk:jewelry" ratio. That includes very experienced detectorists too!
Hint- "MODERN PULLTABS TEND TO READ ABOUT 53 AS A NUMERICAL VALUE. THEY ALSO BANG REAL HARD AND OFTEN GIVE A DOUBLE BEEP"
My video below shows some nice jewelry found, mostly with the AT Series.
