Mounting the X1 on the SE

How many people mount their X1 probe on the top shaft of the SE? I mounted mine as instructed on the battery box i found it ackward. Im sure its mostly me just because im new to using it. I must be a clean freak, because it really seemed to dirty up the detector. When i was went to clean it it just seemed it had dirt everywhere. Ralph said mounting the probe on the upper shaft, which im going to try, wouldnt affect the detector. I guess my question is, is the upper shaft sturdy enough for the constant pulling and extra weight?

Both my wife & I have had Ralphs X1 probes mounted on the top shaft of our other Explorers for an extended (several years) and hundreds of hunts. Never had problem one doing this. I wouldn't be at all concerned about the upper shaft being sturdy enough-because it is. The only thing I didn't like about it being mounted on the shaft-is the fact that you're adding just that much more extra weight out there to an already heavy detector. Even with that, we got by with it fine. I've seen a lot of people with battery box mounted probes but have never tried it that way myself. Battery box mounted probes may help the balance a little. But give the shaft mount a try-you can always change it back if you don't like it. We've also had Sunray probes on our DFX, CZ-3D, & our two F-75's. Now there's a sweet combination---Sunray probe & F-75. I can't say enough good things about Sunray products! Hope this helps you in some way my friend, Del

I finally realized what i was doing wrong. Im so used to putting the detector to my far right when i put it down because of the interferrence from the Virbrapro. Now i place it just in front of me, what a big difference. I just have to get used to using it. It drives me nuts if i use pinpoint, but motion operation and a little wiggle seems to work best for me. Is it normal that the VCO doesnt work on the probe? The instructions also seems to say i get better depth using MOTION operation as apposed to pinpoint. Thanks Del, i may still try mounting it on upper rod.

lets have a pic of your shaft mounted probes please,:detecting:im a battery box placement for my probe
