Moving to Florida

Hi all, I am moving from Virginia where I have experienced great relic hunting over the past few years. Any tips on where to go inFlorida? I will be living in the Lake Mary area.

Thanks and happy swinging!

For starters you are going to be close to Daytona, and the whole east coast of Florida. Beach hunting will give you many opportunities to detect. Just south, is the famed Treasure Coast . I know there are many inland hunters in that area also. I am sure someone will jump in here. Try get setup with a local club, to meet hunters and get the low down on your area.

Just roam those beaches all day............... and switch modes to thoughts of Gold and Silver Jewelery !! .. ( And Warmth) ...

moved down here from ohio about almost two years ago!( space coast) i was a relic and beach hunter in ohio. hunting ohios lake beaches was completely different and i am still learning/ trying to learn how to defeat the sand down here in order to find the gold.
relic hunting is still on my list but i have not been able to afford the drive to any possible inland relic sites. the plan for me is to hunt the beaches during tourist season or erosion events and relic hunt in the winter when some of the vegitation dies off and the mosquitos are less of a problem. depending on where you move to, there are less old farm houses, old foundation in the woods type sites here.

im enjoying very much the year round hunting and lack of frozen ground, sunshine, wearing shorts year round and living accross the street from the beach.
good luck to you!!
chuck.

You will be only a couple of miles from there. You will be like a kid in a candy store. It is what I would call a metal detector museum.

You will also be next to Sanford. There are a lot of old houses there. There is great MD"ing when an old place is torn down. Also if a place is being renovated, ask to MD it. I have never been turn down. Easements are open for detecting and still give up some good finds. Anytime they tear up a sidewalk or street detect it. Hit the library. Lots of old stage coach stops, swimming holes, haciendas and communities. There is a CW site north of Deland. Everything is sand and great digging.

The beach is good in the summer time. In dry sand hit the beach about 4:00 pm when people leave the beach after sunning all day. You will see flat places in the sand where they had their blankets, MD there. Don't wait till evening, the other detector'est will beat you there. Find the bars and party"ing places and detect them at day break the next morning. Again be early and be the first.

There is a whole new world in learning water detecting. Too much to say now. Good luck!!!

Thanks all. If anyone needs a hunting partner shoot me a message! Looks like a lot of Oppy's!

I moved from Maryland to South Carolina 3 years ago. Love the warmnth and year round detecting. Enjoy yourself!!

I hunt in the St Augustine area every year and I have never seen another person swinging and i usually put in 3 hours a day. The beaches are pretty clean due to the fact that there is no drinking allowed on the beach. I use the gold bug and it fairs quite well even in the wet. Tomorrow I am venturing down to the Thornburg VA for a little relic hunt. I wish you the best in your outings.
Take care
Bob

Thanks Bob! Good luck innThornburg, that's not too far from where I left!

I thought detecting in the water was off limits on the Atlantic side due to the treasure hunting leases, where private parties lease sections from the govt to hunt treasure. They keep an eye on their leases. Not 100% sure, check it out.
You can follow the tide out though.

Steve,
You can detect on the beach the only thing that is off limits is the state park which is slightly north of Augustine.

Take care
Bob

Thanks Bob. How about down around Coco Beach and south towards Sebastian Inlet?

Steve,

I am a Realtor in the Orlando area and service the Lake Mary area I am currently looking for someone to detect with. When will yoube relocating.

Thanks,

FHRBROKER
