I have been trying to follow what you guys have been discussing with Frank, but - ZOOM, right over my head. I don't know if what I am going to ask is related or not.
Late yesterday and today, I noticed a real strong false signal (short and strong) about every 10 minutes. Yesterday it started after about 4 hours use - about 1/3 the time in waist deep or deeper water where the unit was under the surface. Today, it started after about 2 hours, but I was in some fairly heavy surf and also in waist or deeper water. So today the unit was under water sooner and longer. The cable is spiralled, but is tight and secure, and the batteries were topped off last night and the night before.
After washing the unit down and drying it off tonight, I noticed some water in the Phones connector and then in the coil connector. I could not tell if the water had gotten onto the connector pins or not. I know from your manual that water on the coil connector pins will cause falsing. I cannot tell if the water got past those two little rubber humps on the seal.
My question is, should there be any water inside the connector? I tighted them down hand tight and was afraid to really crank them down.

Hi Jerry,
Water does get inside the connectors but will stop at the humps on the rubber seals around the pins.
Hard to say what might be causing the false signals. Just note where and when it happens over a few trips out. Does it only occur in the water, or on the beach as well? Does it happen when the coil is stationary, or only when it is moving?

While testing a detector circuit on the bench I noticed a strong signal every few minutes. The signal became stronger and more frequent until I discovered what was causing it. A sudden lightning flash came through the window. You guessed it, the PI was picking up the lightning strikes from many, many, miles away.
