Musketeer Advantage

I am considering purchasing a Musketeer Advantage. This is my first metal detector and I am completely new to the hobby. Is this a good detector for a beginner. What are the good and bad points?Any info would be appreciated. This detector is within my price range and I am comparing it to White Classic 4. Thanks

Hello, I thought I would share this story with you. Me and Charlie in NC were hunting a new site we recently found when my brother happened to come to have a go at it. Well, I let him use the detector I was using and Charlie had a spare musketeer that he picked up at a flea market. To make a long story short the first thing I dug was the coin I just recently posted (1754 George the 2nd penny). Keep in mind this was the first time I had used this detector and we had hammered this spot for hours before I started with the musketeer. Maybe I just got lucky! I dont know, but I now like the name musketeer. Good luck........Aaron

It's an excellent detector for a beginner or an expert. It's easy to use, goes deep, gets great target separation (meaning you can find the coins in trash), and has a decent selection of aftermarket coils and so on for it. Also great on battery life.
Bad points - some say it's heavy you might want to hipmount it or purchase the kit where you can mount the control box in the rear - it costs about 60 bucks. Single tone id, since you're new this probably isn't a negative for you, but after using machines with tone id this would be nice.
Bottom line: Show me a better detector for the money. This one can go nearly as deep as machines costing 2 or 3 times the money. You won't be sorry if this turns out to be the hobby for you, and if you don't like it, you won't have a problem selling it.

Good choice for the money. Personally, I agree with Ed and like to chest mount it with the new style hip/chest mount bag. It has a clear cover to view control settings and is padded to protect the control box. It is a simple to use detector and has excellent depth. Good choice for relic, coins and beach hunting in the dry sand. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
