MX5 and MXT thresholds

How do these two thresholds compare, one tend to be smoother than the other? Had an Mxt before but can't remember. Prob about the same?

Depends on the ground you're on. The MXT being 14.8 kHz will run pretty smooth on everything but highly mineralized soils. Don't know much about the MX5 but you should look at the kHz on that one. That's the answer.

I think the MX5 is a little ruffer than the MXT, I have been hunting with the THole truned down. I like the MX5 but wish it had knobs like the MXT. The MXT is so ease to control and fast on the run. The MX5 is said to be deeper than the MXT by about 3" or 4" . So far I haven,t found anything over about 5" to 6", the MXT can do that. I hope the MX5 is deeper, haven't tested it yet.

@coinjumper - Never had an mx5, but compared to the other White's machines the MXT seems to be the smoothest digital one.

@au79 - Depends on the ground you're on?? - Think it depends on the circuits on how well they track the ground. And both detectors are equal (+/- a few Hz) in frequency, ~14kHz.

@Flintstone - Jup. It's a pleasure to run the MXT. And right from the start of your hunt you KNOW for sure your machine is running on best performance.
No switching through menues and submenues and sub-sub.... ya know what I mean (and I like my DFX).

MXT does have a smooth threshold around my area. My MX5 is a little rougher or chatty no matter where you set the thold, unless it's all the way off. I run mine between 3 and 5 most of the time. MX5 does seem to go just a little deeper in most soils where i detect. I've hit dimes at 8" with the MX5 with solid tone. MXT runs smoother at the beach for sure with less falsing when the coil touches the sand. Turning the sensitivity down to say 6 or 7 bars helps with falsing on my MX5 in wet sand, while the MXT can be run at or just above the preset in wet sand. Personally I like a double D coil on both machines such as the SEF WSS 5x10, the 4x6 Shooter or the Whites 10" dd. these are what i have experienced with both machines, hope it helps.
