My fiance swallowed a paper clip (no, I have no clue how) and I took her to the ER to be examined. Xray showed nothing unusual so they sent us home. She says it still feels like its in her esophagas so I checked her with the MXT. I got a signal in the middle of her shoulders that VDI'ed as iron/foil. Before panicking and rushing her back to ER I had her try the same on me for comparison. Unbelievably, the same result. MXT says something is roughly in the same spot on me as is in her. Question: is the MXT finding the iron in the blood supply that is in large amount in the heart? Or does anyone think that we should both check ourselves into ER? I'm not joking- this just happened in the last 2 hours. Thanks in advance-

Verrry interesting.. My body sets off the machine too- got readings from 0-32 or more- no metal in my body except fillings- which don't seem to do much at all.
I'm not sure why we are getting readings- hemaglobin is iron oxide (rust)--not sure how reactive it is to the machine.
However-- I am in the medical triage field and would say this- did the Dr rule out that it stuck in the throat (esophagus or valecula) or bronchial passage?
If all they did was ck the stomach, it could be stuck higher up. If it was in the stomach, it would probably pass without a problem- but sure would watch for abd pain, vomiting or lack of stool in the next 72 hrs or so! You should be ok..

No big deal, just wanted to confirm about the symptoms you mentioned but she's much better now; just a little sore in the throat. It was scary at the time. What a surprising response though, that swinging the coil over her and me. Like you, the only metal was in our teeth. Tried it again yesterday this time same response. Like you VDI'ed at 0-20 maybe a little higher. I wonder if there is some application for this machine in the medical field.
 
I ground balanced my MXT in SALT position and bounced it off my chest a few times and it got quiet--then I no longer could get the beep on various body parts. Strange that fillings don't hit well... but I think the "normal saline" factor is the culprit. <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">

I have a pet corgi and I ran my mxt over her and came up with a foil response in the exact same spot on her body a couple of times. It wouldnt be against her judgement to eat a candy bar foil and all. But it is pretty neat just the same.
