MXT pro for relic hunting??

In the market for a new detector and the MXT pro is starting to creep up the standings. Was wondering how this machine performed as a relic hunter and since this is the MXT users forum I figured you were the right people to ask. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank and thanks.

I have the older MXT and really like it.
I hunt mostly for coins and jewelry.
Use relic mode trigger forward and gives two tones.
High tones for the non ferrous and low for the iron based metals.
It does go down to 8 inches the bigger the target will ID.deeper.
I use the VDI almost exclusively for my digs.

IMHO the MXT and the MXT pro are very capable detectors and certainly are a good choice for relics. The ground tracking is excellent, the depth is very good and the coil selection covers pretty well every situation. I've been using the Standard MXT for several years with great results.

Thanks, right now the top 2 choices are the MXT pro and the x-terra 705. Its going to be a while before I make a decision but I am getting all the info I can to make the right call here. Thanks for help.

The MXT (all versions) is an outstanding machine for relics IMHO . . . Joel's settings are exactly what I used on my std. MXT and it works great helping you to distinguish iron trash from any lead, brass, etc. relics without having to watch the screen (2 tones) . . even the smallest ones with the right coil. No experience w/the Minelab so I can't compare them . . good luck.

The only thing in my personal arsenal I can compare my MXT Pro to is the AT Pro, but I can't see you going wrong with the MXT. I'm pretty new to the "hobby", but have been relic hunting exclusively for the past year with the MXT and feel I've claimed at least my share of the booty. To emphasize again my experience with other machines is nil, but with the adjustability/flexibility provided by the MXT I head to the hot soil of DIV Land next weekend with great confidence. It may not perform as well as the PI machines in certain situations, but that's an entirely different subject all together.

The mxt is a great machine to relic hunt with. Barberbilll nailed it. The ground tracking gives it an edge over alot of the machines out there. That's all I hunt with. It gets great depth and the tracking helps out when other machines can't find it in mineralized soil. I would take the mxt over the xterra any day, ANY DAY! I would even take it over the etrac for relic hunting. That's my 2 cents. Good luck.

Thanks for all the information. I am still doing my own independent research but I like what I am hearing so far. Its going to be a few months before I get one so I whave plenty of time to figure it out. Thanks again.

I love the MXT PRO. I just got back from hunting in Culpeper, VA which is very hot ground and I was digging bullets and buttons 8" deep. The MXT has always been an excellent relic machine and always will be.

I too have the mxt pro it goes as deep or in some instances deeper than others, awesome relic machine, will run with the best of them, if your an experienced detectorist, it will be a snap learning it. Now on the other had the minelab(any of them you buy) there is a greater learning curve to it, believe me I know. When I go hunting I grab the pro and go. Have found probably more rings with it than any other detector. I guarantee you if you get one you'll never part with it.HH

A great "all around" metal detector which is VERY capable at pulling out some awesome relics. Trust me.... CCH

[size=large]if ya can invite somefolks from around you. one with the MXT and another with the X-705. my money says the ml will not compare. it's why the MXT has the better rep for relic hunting. the best or one of the best selling feature is the recovery speed. no echo. when i'm not in the mood for just a walk i take the MXT. it is fast and positive on the hits. both machines will cost so do try to find one of each to compare in your hands.

The proof's in the puddin' - pay attention to the dig where I describe a "whisper"

Thanks. I am most certainly blessed though that type of dig is not a common experience for me. That was part I. Just go to my YouTube page to view part 2. It was the best one day I've ever had.
