I have hunted with the Mxt and stock coil on my beach and I have found two things work for me. First off, I walk to and away from the beach waves, that way the Mxt has a little bit of time to adjust to the conditions. If you swing your coil from the water towards the dry sand, your machine is trying to adjust to a wider range, meaning you lose depth. I swing my coil parallel with the water. Second, slow down in your swings. No hurry's man. In the wetter sand mine will act more unstable if I swing to fast. I hunt in relic mode....to each his own, I just like the way relic works for me. I also try to hunt the wetter stuff, Then move up to the drier sand where the Mxt is more stable. When I do this, I usually turn off my Mxt for a sec, then turn it back on. I also use the "SALT" setting when in the wet, but when I hit the drier sand, I flip back to ground, I think it gives me a little more depth. I have recently put a 6x8 s.e.f. coil on my machine and it works GREAT. I would have to advise anyone looking at doing this....go with a bigger coil. I can run my machine at the preset 9, and actually have salt water just cover my coil and it does not affect it. Plus these coils are a lot lighter than I thought. Swing my Mxt with the 6x8 s.e.f. if like swing the end of a broom stick around. It sounds like a machine gun in trashy areas if you swing it fast. I am very happy with it. Hope this helps you out.
