My 70 beeps 3 times over a target while my brothers 50 beeps once. How can this be?

Hi. I am a new Xterra user and have just had it 2 weeks now. Thank you to everyone who runs this forum it has been very very usefull in helping me understand the xterra and sort out a few problems. I have one thing that is still confusing me however and I dont think anyone else has mentioned it in any other threads. I will try and explain.

I have the 70 with the high frequency 10x5 coil. My brother has the 50 also with the 10x5. What happens is when I find a target and swing over it with a slow sweep speed I get 3 distinct seperate beeps (Sometimes 2 usually 3). 1 beep at each edge of the coil and 1 beep in the middle. My brothers 50 on the other hand is different it just gives 1 beep. We have set up both detectors in the same way sensitivity, ground balance etc, the coil is the same and sweep speed the same. We even swapped over both our coils and the results were the same so there is no problem with either of the coils. If a target is above the ground the results are not different from if it is below the ground.

So I cant work out why this would be. Does the 70 have a faster recovery speed than the 50? I dont think so. Or could there be a problem with one of the detectors.

We both still find things at good depths and find small items and dont notice any other significant problems or differences between the 2 detectors in terms of performance.

I hope someone may be able to shed some light on what we are finding. Which is normal the 50 or 70? and what does your detector do with the 10x5 coil. Thanks for any help.:jump:

I had the X-50 and now the X-505, I use the 10.5 DD 7.5 kHz coil on both MDers and if a coin is right on top or just below I will get 2 fast beeps but never 3 beeps. also if I have the Sen up to high which I do most of the time I get the 2 beeps if the coin is an inch or less deep.

The X-70 does have a different processor than the X-50. But I don't think that is the situation you explain. Not if you both have good depth and don't notice any lack of performance. But I will say that it is tough to set both detectors up with the same level of Sensitivity and Ground Balance, since the X-70's Sensitivity goes from 1-30 and the GB is adjustible from 1-90. And the X-50's Sensitivity goes from 1-20 and the GB is from 0-50. But if you are saying that you are running at the same "percentage"as your brother, (for example "half" with Sens 15 on yours and 10 on his) it would be close in measure. Percentage of whole would be close in GB as well. But if your numbers are the same, you are close to using the same actual settings.
If you were sweeping left to right....is the first beep as the target leaves the right edge of the coil, the middle beep is with the target directly under the center of the coil, and the third beep as the target enters the left edge of the coil? As Mark indicated, a high level of sensitivity is typically the cause of the double or triple beeps on a DD coil. If you are using the same settings, could be that your Ground phase is set too positive. How are you achieving your ground balance on the X-70? Auto or manual? I'd also be curious as to what level you have your Threshold set. HH Randy
