my bad luck today!

Everyday on my way to work I keep seeing this brick house from the 1800's and today I am going by and I see someone outside, I stop and chat with him, and I obtain permission to detect it!

well right after he gives me the go-ahead, he tells me 2 guys were there just two weeks ago for 5 hours and walked away with several old coins. Man what a bummer. I looked around for about 90 minutes and got nothing but shallow 2-3 inch deep clad. whoever was there ignored the shallow targets. He said I was welcome to come back and try again, which I will when we get rain, the ground is so dry right now it is almost unbearable. We have not had rain in any real amount since june.

and the owner also mentioned the house was built in the 1860's

If you dug any trash then there's still good stuff there. Once you detect the obvious places drift off to some areas you wouldn't normally hunt. Stick your coil under bushes and the like. If there's not much trash use as much sens as can be tolerated. Use the relic mode and dig iffy signals too.

our lack of rain had to have hurt their finds too, I don't care how good their machine was. I will go back when and if we ever get rain...lol

I will get some pictures of the house too, also the house across the street from him is abandoned too, and he said to go ahead and hunt if it I want. He said the sherriff told them to contact them if anything out of the ordianry goes on. So I should feel free to detect it.

You bet, hunt the other house. I know it might sound bad but if your questioned just say the guy said to hunt. Then it's on him. Then he has to prove "he has authority to give permission". I was at at house 2 weeks ago where there was a 1850 to 1920 horse track and fair ground. I knew one man that gave me permission to hunt his 2 acres. But there is another 10 acres of hay field that he doesn't own. This is where the grand stands were! He said to go ahead and hunt the field. I said I would as soon as they hay it.
