My buddy was tearing his old porch off and found. . .

an 1832 8-reale (in really bad shape.) We live in Rocheport, MO which is in the middle of the state right on the Missouri River. Our city was founded in 1825 and was a thriving steamboat and railroad town that Bloody Bill Anderson used to call his "capital." After the boom this little 'berg nearly died away but was revived by The Katy Trail hiking/biking trail.

I swing a Minelab Explorer XS and love it. I have found an 1855 half, an 1838 dime and an 1856 quarter all in this area. I have been reading with interest all the posts and will post some pics, soon.

Back to the reale - that advice you hear so often about checking the torn-off porches is sooo true. I got to hold that coin in my hand and was just blown away - I almost offered him $100 for it on the spot!

You guys and gals are making some great finds and offering some great advice and hopefully I can contribute here, real soon.

Thanks,

Tmiser.

Hi tmiser,
Just thought I might add that when my Dad & his two brothers tore off the wooden back porch to his dads house they found $3000.00 in an old jar. They almost had it spent before his step moms brother found them and took his hiddden stash away. He had hidden it under his sisters porch as he lived in a rental and thought it would be safe there. The brothers took al lot of grief for not telling his mother about the loot before the split it up and started out on the town.
I always inspect n sweep under wooden porches...
good luck to you.
