My first piece of silver jewelry?

dlh

New member
I was at a local park yesterday digging mainly clad when I dug this ring. Looks like it may have been stepped on and broke. I rinsed it off when I got home. In side of band is stamped .925, but I am not convinced it is silver. Why?....I dont know. It could be I have never found any silver jewelry before.....lol. Do they stamp silver plated? Always something new to learn!

Thanks
Denis

If it's stamped .925, it should be sterling. There are quite a few reports of fake silver rings, though. Plated rings should not be stamped 925 or sterling. I've found gold plated rings stamped 18K HGE (heavy gold electroplate).

I'd say it's silver by the color of the tarnish but if lost recently there's a possibility it could be silver plate. Looks like it took a hit from a lawn mower.

If it's stamped .925 it's probably Mexican silver, good quality silver, equivalent to sterling silver.

Or.....just get some baking soda, make a teaspoon of thick mud (add h2O) and rub the mud with a lot of pressure all over the ring. That should put some lustre back into the ring.

A nice first find too.
