My first silver find with my Gamma was a great one!

This is my first summer detecting and found my first silver after many days of hunting. It turned out to be a Standing Liberty silver quarter. Date was worn completely off but we were able to determine it is a 1917 Type 1. I was and still am crazy excited!

Congratulations! It's always fun to get out detecting, and excitement always comes your way with any silver coin, but to make your first silver a Standing Liberty quarter is quite a prize. :clapping: SLQ's come few and far between even for those of us with more than one summer under our belt.

The Gamma is a very good Teknetics model, often overlooked by shoppers who either pick one on a lower-cost budget, or move to the higher-dollar Omega. Personally I am an Omega fan, but have done well with the Gamma, too. When I read posts like these I am left wondering a bit, so ... help me/us out here, if you wouldn't mind.

Q: What type of site were you hunting?

Q: What is the Ground Phase reading in that area?

Q: Which Tone ID setting did you use ... and ... which Tone ID do you usually prefer?

Q: Were you using the stock 8" coil?

Just curious because it is this kind of information that I feel can help others better learn their detector(s) by understanding what others use and why.

Even better is that it's just the end of June and there's a lot of 'summer' left to go so I wish you continued success afield.

I was hunting a farm that was built around 1880. It rang up as a solid dime at about only 4 inches under. The ground phase I believe was around 55. I used the tone ID that it's originally set at which I believe is 3. Yes I was using the 8 inch stock coil as well. Otherwise, I just found clad and one 1942 wheat penny. Still a lot of ground to cover though.

Congratulations! That is a GREAT first silver coin to find!..First found silver coin is the One you will NEVER forget!:clapping:

Great Job Now thats the way to start your silver finds.I have never found a SLQ in 5 years of hunting.Hope you find alot more.Who knows you might go on a silver streak!!!:jump:

Thanks Metalfind, yeah I sure hope I go on a streak but I highly doubt it :). I'm just loving metal detecting in general.

its a big rush when you find a coin like that , keep up the good finds

Hey Metalfun, you were right so far about silver streak, knock on wood. I've only been out twice since the SLQ for an hour or so each time and I found a silver Rosie at two different locations.

Congrats on your first silver!!!!!!!!

Nice going! I fell back on my butt when I found my first silver coin, a 1920 Merc. That Standing Liberty is a great beginning for more to come.
