My heaviest gold ring 14.5 grams.

Things are a little slow as far as detecting good targets so I was going back through photos of past finds and was remembering when I detected this gold ring off a beach in Ventura about 4 years ago. It sounded like I had a rock clanging around in my sand scoop! I was so thrilled to see this chunk of gold. It weighed 14.5 grams and I put it on my ring sizer and it was also a 14.5 !!! It was huge! I could still go back to the exact spot even though it was a 2 hour drive away. Sweet golden memories!! Thanks for indulging me!! and now it's time to go and detect another ring to match this one!!!:detecting:

That was a great find, GS. Thanks for sharing.

Thats a monster!

What a wonderful sound that a big ring makes in the scoop, you can hear it even with headphones on and feel it clanking around even in the dark...you know its not a tab or sinker...and hope its not a Tungsten!

Thats a beauty alright!
Mud

Thanks all. Yes, Illinoismic, when I held this ring at the time, I thought exactly the same! Whoever the owner was, I'm glad he wasn't behind me when I recovered it from the sand!!! I think he would have won the fight for the ownership of it!!!!! I suspect this ring slipped off a real big guy's finger once he covered himself in some sun tan oil! It happens many times on all of the beaches all around the world!

He may have had enough of her stuff and tossed it tho.

Nice chunk for you tho!

My brother is is 6'5 500 lbs and this seems like his size ring.... I'm 6'2 150lbs.... ya he would win ownership lmao

He'd have to catch you first.

AND.......I ran track in High School! lol!! but that was a long time ago! Just like most of you, Ive detected many gold rings since then but this one just turned my adrenalin valve full on and made me feel how the pirates must have felt when they got that treasure!!! I'm so looking forward to going back to the beach asap. It has been too long since I have been back and it is so much easier to retrieve from the sand as opposed to the dirt!!

Sadly no beaches here in illinois... we have plenty of corn fields tho lol my best hunting ground is square in the middle of a forested area tho

Illinoismic..........I happen to have rental property in Pekin, near Peoria, just out of curiosity, where are you located?

Thanks.......I'll be making 2 trips there (Pekin) later on in the year to do repairs and will be combining business with pleasure ( as much metal detecting as I can )lol!!! and wondered if you might be close by. I love the history of this area and the chances of finding much older items as opposed to SoCal!!

I have a area that has been really good to me so far. If you come to my area I don't mind sharing lol I havnt found anything really old.

Thanks for the invite, I'll see what I can work out!

Most of what I find where I hunt is 1940s silver coins and rings. Last year was kind of a slow year but I'm hoping the etrac and the freeze cycle will bring up more targets
