My introduction and a question

Hi Everyone; My name is Danny and I live in the Heights area of Houston Texas.
I have had my Explorer II for about 3 months but I have been reading this forum for over 6.
I feel like I know a lot of the people on this forum personaly and have a large number of
the post saved to my computer. The forum has helped me through my learning curve immensely and I Thank Everyone.
The Heights area started growing up in the late 1800s to early 1900s. Lately they have began to tear down or move some of the more run down older homes to build new, old looking homes and I have been using these old lots to learn. The more I learn the more I find.
At first I was running this powerful machine to hot for these old home sites (sens. 2:geek:.
From reading the forum I know some people can get away with this high sensitivity but there
is just to much iron and minerals in these old lots to run that high. Now I know to just
do whatever is effective to have a stable machine. Usually this is somewhere around 18 to 22
sens. I run with only nails & crown cap discrimination.
Anyway I made myself a promise to post on the forum when I find my first silver quarter.
Today I found a 1945 D in very good condition.
Now for my request. I have found 6 silver dimes (2 mercury 4 roosevelt) and 1 silver quarter. This is a 6 to 1 ratio. I would be interested to know other peoples silver dime to
silver quarter ratio.
Thanks again everyone for a great forum.

397 Silver Quarters
2487 Silver Dimes
16% Quarters
6.3 to 1 ratio

my silver dime to silver quarter ratio would be about 15/1.
good luck.

I can see we have another killer on the loose! the more you think about and test the variables in this hobby the more you will learn, and it woulnt be long untill you cant count all your keepers! Great question.
In 10 months I have around 30 silver rosies, 50 or so mercs, 6 barbers, and 1 seated dime. I found 3 silver washingtons, 3 standing liberty, 1 barber quarter, and one seated quarter.
In addition, I found one silver 3 cent piece, one canadian (fish scale)dime, and one walking half. None of these were deeper than 7 inches. hope that helps. Email me if you work up any theories or statistics you want to share.

But it also depends where you detect. In parks and other public areas that have seen much hunting over the years big silver is harder to find, usually mixed in with other trash. More easy to find dimes. Virgin homestead sites will probably give you a chance for a better number of quarters.

15 to 1...Actually wife once said how come you find so many silver dimes.Naturally not that many silver quarters lost and in early days of detecting units did not go deep on a dime , but would on a quarter which may also add to the high prcentage of dimes...

been that way over the last four years but last year I only found 3 quarters (1 barber, 2 washingtons) and one half out of 35 silvers. I stuck to the parks more this year than usual due to lack of hunting time, so that's probably why I found fewer quarters than usual.

Over the past four years with my Explorer, I have found 340 silver dimes, and 39 silver quarters, for a ratio of one silver quarter to every 8.72 silver dimes. Here's a formula that fits my silver quarter finds over the past four years:
Total of Seated Dimes plus total of Silver Roosevelt Dimes, divided by two equals the exact number of silver quarters I've found!!! <img src="/metal/html/glasses.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":geek:">

Anyone who hunts for 30 years should be able to get there. It's a lotta swinging for sure!

I could have given an estimate but I had the actual numbers right in from of me! I use EXCEL to track my finds and I've kept detailed records since I started in 1975!
