My new 6" digger coil.

Going to take the new coil out for a spin today.
Any advice as to setting my 705 up differently as compared to the 9" 7.5 cocentric coil or just keep it the same, and let the coil do the work?
Will be at a trashy site. All opinions are welcome...

No real setup procedural difference. Just go SLOW, especially if trash density is high. Run in DISC mode with -8 and 48 notched out. Dig targets that sound coin sized. Avoid going after non-repeatable signals, tones that are broken scratchy or faint, TIDs that jump around more than 1 or 2 notches, or TIDs that ratchet down with subsequent passes over them.

Beyond that, it's going to be a learning experience, so expect to dig some trash in the process.
GL&HH!
Let us know how you get on.

Got out for about an hour today with the new coil and alass no luck.
Give me a half a day and ill be able to figure this coil out.
Im still playing with the SENS... to see what depth i can get.. This trashy site reminds me of the Car lights in the fog scenario talked about by
Mr. Horton
The size of this coil makes you slow your swing way down.
Im sure the more confident i get with this, that i will start hitting some good targets.

I used mine today for the first time it definitely nails coins when your over them. It also nails soda and beer cans like a champ. Not complaining, but it's going to take some getting used to. As soon as I can get over some good targets, I have no doubt it will produce.

Unless the cans are real deep you can usually rule them out before digging. First raise the coil - if you are still gettting that strong signal with the coil more than 3 or 4 inches off the ground it may be a can. Second way is with sizing and pinpointing although it can be a little less certain.

I am really liking this coil.
The coins are just yelling at me now. Wow what a big difference compared to the 7.5 9" cocentric.
Im finding lots of nickles too!!! Just notching out -8 and +48....
And the best part is that im finding targets that were previously hunted by me using the stock coil on the x-terra705.
The DD makes a huge difference in seperating the trash from the good stuff.
Cant wait to get back to the old 1850's homesites this comming May!
Way to go Coiltek!!

:detecting: I knew you were going to like it.

I think a lot of people would do much better if they followed Old Longhair's suggestion above regardless of which coil you are using. My pattern 1 is exactly what he listed, -8 & +48 notched out. There are some places where that is a little too open but 95% of the time that's what I'm using. About the only time i stray from this pattern is if I'm park hunting and it seems to be a little trashy. I'll then switch to my pattern 3 which has just about everything notched out except coins.

Slowing down also makes a big difference but I've found that once you think you have a good target at a slow scanning speed, it often helps to swipe back and forth across the target just a little faster than you were going. To me, this seems to help verify the target a little better. I think sometimes when you are going very slow it's almost like the signal kind of smearing a little because the detector doesn't have as much time to recover from seeing the signal to not seeing the signal. When you go back and forth across the faint target a little faster than the speed at which you found it, it gives the detector more of a chance of breaking the signal and rediscovering the signal giving you a little better target ID. Obviously if you go too fast on those really deep signals they sometimes won't ID at all so you have to kind of get a feeling for what the right speed is to use.

Just my two cents.

That is good advice. I used that method today, passing over the targer a little faster.
It really helps...
A couple clad nickles and a few wheats (1926 the oldest),and a rosie....

I think that when you isolate a target, and do "the Minelab wiggle" back and forth over the target with a DD coil, the reason that it stabilizes the TID is because the target is effectively in the detection field enough for the machine to get a good look while being re-excited by the transmit signal.

Good find! :clapping:

And the outer band isn't necessarily silver. I have heavy men's gold rings that come in that high. The bigger, thicker, or fatter it is the higher it will read.
