I upgraded from my X305 to a new X705 last week. I really enjoyed my 305 I bought second-hand in early spring. I wanted the more versatilty of the 705, so I took the plunge. The family went for a few days to Gulf Shores , Alabama. The gulf was beautiful and so was the white sand beach. The very clean, white sand beach. They are still mechanically deep cleaning the sand from the BP deal. Boy that creature sure does a good job.
My dreams of finding rings and jewelry buried all around would not come true this trip, but I had a blast. My son was home from college and comendered the 305 which led to a competition hunt. The first evening we arrived, I dug every signal to familiarize myself with the machine. 2,4 and 6 on the TID was always a piece of foil or the corner of a Crystal Light pack. 12 and 18 were mostly pull tabs. The occasional nickel would hold a solid signal. 34 to 36 to 40 bouncing would be a beer top. We cleaned out the chairs and tents behind our condo of all the trash.
After dark, we moved to the public beach by the moonlight (and the backlight on the 705, nice). I would give Gulf Shores a litter free award. You could go 50 yards without even hitting a piece of junk. It was amazing. When you did find a coin, there was usually more than one in the area. I was surpised at one spot the TID bounced between 12, 28, and30. Figuring a beer top, I scooped it up and was surprised to have a nickel, penny, and dime all three in the scoop.
We found some misc. stuff and covered a lot of real estate. The pictures show our haul. We went one more time after the pictures were made. 196 clad coins for a little over $12.
I tried the wet sand out of curiosity of things I saw posted here. My detector falsed -2 and 2. I turned the sensitivity down and it stopped but, there was nothing to be found, not even a pull tab. The only exception was around a bridge piling where people fish. I found three different dimes that were 6-8" deep in the wet sand.
No tangible riches, but a lot of fun and some precious family memories were made.
