My old Excal has a knob problem, please help!

New member
G,day everyone,
Hope all is well for everyone over the Xmas holidays, the New year is just around the corner.
I have a slight problem with the old Excal, the old girls sensitivity knob is busted.
It just keeps turning around and around, question is, Can I fix this?
Im on the Sunshine coast and almost in a crazed state as the Battery packed it in also and
every time I go to the beach I'm going crazy just knowing that there is something in the water
that needs to be found.
I need to get back into the water real quick or a land lubber I'll end up as AAARGGGHHHHH.

Thanks for the input on this one if possible.
Cheers and HH

Its probably just the knob spinning on the shaft(hopefully)depending on the type you may be able to tighten it, pull out the yellow cap and if there is a nut un there it can be tightened, if its the other type a replacement set would be better as they are quite cheap and of better quality usually with a grub screw to tighten them. If you take the knob of and try turning the shaft if it rotates the same as the knob did its internal and a hospital job for minelab, but you will probably find it doesn't so a new know will sort it. there are setts on ebay for less than $15 that i have heard good reports about

As already stated. Find out if it is a knob or switch issue. The knob is easy to correct. The switch will require nelp.

Here is the sku # for the radio shack control knobs for your Excalibur they work great.
274-403 Pkg of 2 for $1.99

Sorry guy's I should of mean't that the actual pot itself is broken not the knob.
I could possibly run the machine without it or just fiddle with it until i find a way to fix it.
I am going to ring Minelab on Monday to see if they still do repairs on the older Excaliburs.
I have just ordered a new battery pack from the states and should be here in 3 to 4 weeks

If there is any of the post showing you could cut a slott to adjust it with a screwdriver till you get it fixed,if its broken flush you could use a small hot screwdriver tip to make the slot if not able to cut one, if its broken inside at the pot not much you can do. either way be carfull it may not now be watertight, using it in the water as it is could cause more damage
Minelab should be able to fix it even if its old if its just the pot that needs replacing

Thanks Kered,
Yeah, I was thinking of the possibility of the the watertight seal being damaged.
Man, I miss tecting beneath the waves.
G.day Terry
I'm at Buderim at the moment but I will be heading home tomorrow.
I'm down to only one machine now:cry:
Oh, well I better start digging for a bit of the alluvial gold instead, just built myself a highbanker
and been chasing gold up in the hills.
Yes we should catch up and do a bit of beach hunting, that would be good.
Cheers and HH

Thanks GH,
We can only ask, maybe it's "time up" :sad:for the old girl and maybe a new one on the horizon.
Just a question GH, is the 800 coil capatable with the older machine and how hard would it be to change it over.
Just by looking through the main body, it seems to be only 3 wires involved. Also is the newer type coils lighter than the old horseshoe type coil?
Once again, thanks.
And happy New Year to everyone, Cheers :beers:and HH And may the New Year bring home the gold:super::wiggle::clapping:

Should not be an issue mate. I have an Excal NY 1997 model and it is fitted with a Tornado 1000(used to have a horseshoe coil back in the day) now. Need to get the Tornado 800 put onto it though. Do not buy the Slimine, buy the Tornado. Of course Minelab will install it for you while there, since you ARE running OEM coils, savvy?
