My old Garrett American

I dug out my original Garrett American detector that I bought used back in the 80's. Does anyone have any information on this Green Machine. It still works but not as well as my GTI 2500...Do I have a collectors piece or piece of ??

- you wont retire if you sell it, but, hey - at least it works.

It's a $100 detector, at best, these days.
Check on ebay for a few months and you'll see what they actually sell for.

It's in great shape and pretty cool.

It would have sentimental value to ME. It was the detector I used to win TWO Garrett metal detectors in the first International Treasure Hunt. I found out by accident that you could hold the retune button in while hunting and it had a slow retune speed so I was hunting fast and always at the threshold point.I was in the top group the first day and was kinda excited. I went coinshooting that evening in pulltab mode and found a few coins. I FORGOT to take it out of that mode the next day and was figuring I was just having a bad day-until at the end of the hunt I looked down and saw my goof-up. To say I was sick at my stomach is putting it mildly. It has a trimmer on the inside that I adjusted to where the pulltabs broke up-which made it a little better in trash. If I had it now, I would just hunt in non-disc-as I am a little wiser for the years. It's a great detector. Too bad TR's aren't that sought after any more-they have a little trouble with the ground minerals, which I handled in some areas by holding the retune button while searching. It will find stuff!

A good old machine.:detecting:You need to wrap the coil cable more tightly around the stem if you plan on doin' any huntin' with it. There were several different models made by Garrett under the American series. I have included four different links to owners manuals for Garrett American series of metal detectors. I hope one is for your machine and is helpful to you.
