My RECORD day at the Penny Pit!

It is just a no account park, not very big, but lots of terrain changes, and a little chip playground. I was there at first light, it is about a 30 mile drive, but I was curious and need a new location anyway. It was cold and frosty, so I started out in the chips...by jingo there was plenty of coins in there! A good sign! I cleaned it out in a hurry and started a reconnoiter around the park, getting the feel of it, and was hitting 63's nearly every swing! lots of 73-75's too and an occasional 86! Hardly any trash either! I figured I was there for about an hour, and then I had it down, I knew where all the coins were, so I drove on out of there and hit 3 other parks in the town and sniped some clad there too! I headed back to the Penny Pit, and settled in to make some count, at first just keying on the 73's and up...At the bottom of the park in a little swale no bigger than a garage, theres a drain grate, there were more coins than dirt there! The only thing I can figure is they must push up a pile of snow there and have a penny hunt spot for the kids. I'm talking 10 to 20 coins in areas the size of a garbage can lid! The whole place is maybe 20' X 30' and its a carpet of clad! Once the pennys started to thin, I hit a lot more Q's, D's, and N's and that Sac dollar coin..I left out of there at noon, and went and grabbed a coke for the drive home, then I thought, I wonder how many I can find in a half hour? So I went back and found 73 coins, 1Q, 2N's and the rest pennys in an honest half hour!
I think I could have had a 500 day if I woulda just stayed put, but hey, I bet theres at least 300 more coins in this place! I was running the F70 of course, 50 sens, -3 thresh, with the 11"dd coil hovering above the ground at least 4", trying to lock onto only one coin at a time, stab it, and then repeat. They were all in the roots, not deep at all, maybe an inch or two..it was very easy and almost boring, good practice though stabbing without using the Pinpoint button, and unraveling stacks of coins...the F70 was chattering and smoking like mad! So was I! I'll break 9000 coins tomorrow if I get back in there! Oh..278 coins, 14.26.

That makes for a heavy jingly pouch!

Incredible!!!!! I am happy for ya. Glad it's you, though, and not me. 278 pops. 2 of those pops was my knees just thinking about it. Way to go my man. HH jim tn

Thanks boys...If you ever get into a heap o coins like this, its really tough to isolate just one at a time when theres another 4 or 5 under that 11" coil..once you start unravelling though, it goes pretty fast. Just keep a low sens, very short wiggles, and that coil high off the targets until it locks onto one. Or else just start stabbing away and hope you hit something! both work. I always wondered what a fellow could do speed wise in the right location, so I started the half hour time frame with an empty pouch, did not really hurry, just normal speed..if the coins were seperated a little more, a guy could have done 100 of them easy in a half hour. Jim these were so shallow I didnt have to kneel, just did the "wide legged stoop, stab, and grab"

Thats when i get on my knees put the detector down and just use the pinpointer.

Gad zooks 278 coins!!! I get tired just thinking about that. Mud that is some good detecting. If you remember it took me 3 days to dig that many coins out of the volley ball court last year.
I think I would use some of that $700 to buy a 6.5" coil. I think I would hit that place a few more times just to see what is there? It could be a real surprise? Anyway that is some good detecting. Great work... Z

Way to go Mudman, there is a rumor going around Mud that CoinStar has your picture posted offering a reward leading to your arrest for jamming up the machines with rusty old clad, I heard coinstar wants to offer you a buyout to retire from detecting...lol....way to go mudpuppy......(KCH)
