My Sidewalk Silver Method

pilot

New member
This method is not your slow park sweep or antique speed artifact hunt...it is a fast method to find silver with limited time. It was fashioned from one of Diggers tips about sidewalks. First you need identify any older neiborhood by looking at house foundations, sidewalks and street condition. Also look for large trees as these will indicate how old the neighborhood is and how recent any street work has been done. Try to find neighborhoods that are closer to downtown as these will be the oldest. You need to be in the right locations to increase your odds. Once you find a good location park at the end of the block and just walk slowly with the detector at your side checking the area one coil width from the edge of the sidewalk. Walk to the end of the block and then turn around and do the other side. I find a lot of silver clad this way also but I don't dig too many pennies, only if they show a little depth, I always dig TID's of 38+ even if they are not real crisp but repeatable. I have had good success lately using this method instead of slowly sweeping the boulevard between the street and sidewalk. This method also draws less attention from interested homeowners and dogs, but I had one guy come out today when I was walking back doing the other side and after talking to him for a few minutes he offered his yard to me...found a Merc dime next to the sidewalk leading to his house! Walked down the street 50' and found a 1957 Rosie along with a few Wheats a sweep or two in from the sidewalk. Next thing I know and I get a huge popcorn signal and almost kept going but took a second look and here it was a surface pocket drop hiding in the grass with a 1 Dinar coin from Tunisia of all things, along with 27 pennies a couple dimes and a Nickel. One of my better Lunchtime hunts but I have been covering more ground lately doing just sidewalk edges where I think the highest concentration of town coins are at...old and new, and it is working great for me. Just wanted to share my thoughts with you guys. Oh yeah...tell your wife you are trying to find her a diamond ring when you leave...that worked once for me!!!

Nice assortment of finds Kim. Thanks for your method of hunting those strips of turf and what to look for when you are searching for places to hunt. And thanks for posting your finds. HH Randy

Kim, very good method, but you are 'not' telling your wife the truth because most all diamond rings will not show up at 38+.! But you are right, if it is an area 'loaded' with trash and worthless pennies 'I also' use either a 38+ or 40+ method(blanking-notching out all TID numbers below those numbers).

David, I still hunt in All Metal Mode and if I happen to get a good signal in the 18-26 range I would certainly dig that in hopes of finding that elusive gold ring!

This method prevailed again today at lunch. My best indian head yet a 1903...a one penny GEORGIVS V DEI GRA 1936 and a copper ring with daisies on the edge...maybe silver plated at one time but I have been told it may be a very old wedding ring !
