My take on the G2

Maybe part Shadow X5 with a meter??????????????????????????????????

The Shadow X5 had some quirks which I found annoying, such as adjusting the Disc. level also shifted the Ground Balance and falsing could occur (a too negative GB for example). I liked the light weight and easy control access, and the coil assortment, but I had no use for the "Coin Check" function, or the Fixed GB (way too positive and the way the Disc. mode and All Metal mode were tied in with the GB).

Okay, maybe if it was somewhat similar in some ways to the Shadow X5, but overall I think the G2 will be a superior detector. This past weekend I did a couple of seminars and each day we had an attendee with a Lobo SuperTRAQ. I used the LST on a regular, daily basis back in '99 and after using other makes and models it took a bit to get used to the Discriminate mode's audio. Once I did, I liked it. Grabbing the LST to help a fellow with some instruction it was somewhat refreshing to hear that audio again, and appreciate how similar it is to my Omega.

There was quite a difference, however, because the Omega's audio, when set up similar, was much more responsive and I easily got better depth. So, they were similar in some ways, but the 'edge' was definitely in favor of the 7.8 kHz Omega 8000. So was the weight (light weight), balance and 'feel' of the package. One of those fellows owns several makes and models but mainly uses his own Omega. I wonder why? :)

I would expect to see improved circuitry design with some of the newer models that will be coming our way.

My thought was that Dave J may have helped with the X5, 19khz similar, and here in central va. the x5 does well in the hands of the right relic hunter. Hope your doing well and best regards.
