My first time was a nightmare. My second time was MUCH better. On my second trip with the SE I hunted a park that I have hunted a thousand times. I swithced to a 4X7 coil and started to learn the machine. It was a nice trip with plenty of clad coins found. My third time out I went to a spot where a house was torn down and they cleared the lot and cut several inches of the top soil out to make a new grade for a construction project. This spot has had houses on it for over a 100 years. The enitre area is THICK with nails and bits of ancient, heavily corroded iron. I wish I had gotten my SE before they cut the top soil!!!!! Anyhoo, the machine was tough to keep stable in these conditions; tons of trash, and an unexplainable amount of iron. My first clear repeatable signal was a 1971 penny. Next I dug lots of aluminum slaw and other trash. Then I pulled:
The oldest coin I ever dug.
The ONLY Seated dime I ever dug!
Just a couple of inches down, I could tell by the scrape marks on one side of the coin that it was moved by a bull dozer and sifted back down into the ground. I hope this isn't the only one!!!!!
That was it. Two coins, the 1971 penny and a 1859 dime. Not so great for two hours, but still one of the most exciting finds I ever made. The dime is funny because it has a tiny pin-hole in it near the edge, and the side without the date is dang near smooth. You can't make out any details. Weird.
Say, anybody got any programs or tips for the SE for hunting really iron infested areas? Thanks for your feedback!
Kind regards,
