My X-70 is being shipped Tomorrow!!!!!

AlaskaAng

New member
[size=large]Hi all!

My X-70 is being shipped tomorrow (Thanks Steve H. from Alaska Mining & Diving Supply) I'm like a kid the day before the night before Christmas!!!! I printed the manual & read it twice and have read every X-Terra post on this site and others...I'm so eager to get it. I have some real hot spots lined up and spring breakup is on the way (Interior of Alaska). Gold is dancing in my head as well!

Any tips on how I should go about my first outing with the X-70? I want to learn this machine the right way and take things slow but I'm so pumped that I'm afraid I'm going to expect great finds the first time out...

p.s. I've been detecting since I was 12 (now 40) with a White's (now own 2 XLTs). So I'm no novice but since this is a new brand/model to me, I want to do things right!

Thanks,
Angie

Angie, Since you've indicated you have read this forum's posts, (and hopefully the FAQFAQ section), and you've been detecting for 28 years, I bet you do quite well. If I could offer one suggestion, it would be to visit with Steve H, your dealer. Everyone has different soil conditions where they hunt. As well as different ideas as to what "keepers" are. But Steve is about as well versed on hunting in Alaska as anyone I've read. I wouldn't hesitate for a minute to contact him and see what he might offer. Personally, I like to run in four tones, all metal with a slight threshold. As a coinshooter, I usually dig any target that meets my "3 levels of consistency". If it don't move when you X it from numerous directions, AND if the tone don't vary, AND if the numbers don't bounce more than two notch segments, it is more than likely a US coin. If you're going prospecting, then I yield to others more versed in that endeavor. And we both know that there are some very knowledgeable Prospectors who frequent this forum. Including Steve. Congrats on the purchase and good luck. HH Randy

Both your Xlt's are running 20 year old technology. They are a great detectors no doubt. But the new Xterra's are as new of technology as you can buy. Plus being a full pound lighter. Well that will surprise you. The Xterra 70 has just enough adjustments for professional detecting. Or it can be a turn on a go detector too.

He's got about 6 weeks before he heads up to the mine, so it's a good time to catch him before he get's all drove up.

Your first sentence just scared the holy hell out of me! :veryangry:
Don't ever do that again!!!

Hi Guys,

Thank you for the kind words. But Angie and her husband are the heros here. They both serve in our military. I've enjoyed a good life due to the sacrifice of people like them and nothing I'll ever do will compare to their contribution. I get to roam the hills of Alaska free of care due to them. I owe them and their brothers and sisters in arms my deepest thanks.

Oh yeah, the clues. You are in gold country Angie. Take advantage of your contacts of any sort and get on good ground. That is the secret. You know what detecting is about, so just enjoy yourself. And do please let me know how it goes. Good luck!

Steve Herschbach
