I purchased my xlt spectrum about 3 years ago now from a dealer in California while visiting my son there. He had recently bought a lot of used detectors from the pdo sales. PDO is property disposal office , where the military can sell used equipment back to civilians thru bids. When I first saw my xlt it was scratched up from one end to the other, the military had engraved serial numbers on the shaft and control head, hardly any black paint was left on the main circuit board box and there were no emblem left at all on the side. He informed me that the lot of metal detectors he had purchased had recently been shipped back from Iraq and had been used as mine sweepers for years there. It did not have a coil on it at all so he gave me a new blue max 8 inch coil to use on it. I was amazed that it worked perfectly when I put batteries in it and fired the old war horse up. I called whites in sweethome and explained to them about this special metal detector and the condition it was in and they said send it to them! They replace everything and I do mean everything , inside and out and when it came back it looked like a brand new xlt spectrum.
