Need a little help!

Dig It

New member
I just got a Safari a couple of days ago and I am pleasantly surprised how well I have done in coin mode the two short hunts I have been on. Found a 1935 S Merc and 1951 Rosie.

The part I need help with is I only dug maybe three or four targets in the hour or so I hunted each time.(allot of trash in the area)

I feel a little overwhelmed with the noises it makes, I am use to the beep and dig detectors and this just seems to be a different beast. I am very optimistic with the silver found but would like some advice from those who have used the detector for a while.

What do I tweak in the coin mode? (Example: Sensitivity Auto or manual?)

Do I hunt in all metal and use two tone?

The list goes on and on, so any suggestions or advice Will be greatly appreciated. I did read the owners manual and have the Andy S book on Quattros which I plan to read this weekend.

Thanks in Advance and Merry Christmas!!! Keith

Well I use all metal in auto.If i am looking for silver anything 37 and up has been good.37/38 a quarter 39 dime for me also silver rings wheat's and Indians are30 to 36 if I am going just for coins or silver I cut out all other numbers up to 30 I don't know if this will help any just what I do

If the noises are giving you trouble with the masses of noises made by the safari, then I'd suggest using AUTO sensitivity and coins mode (or a similar discrimination set up with ferrous sounds) until you get used to it. Once you get more accustomed to the sounds, you can use higher levels of sensitivity for greater depth.

If you find a deep jumpy signal that could be iron or silver, it is helpful to listen to the signal in all metal ferrous. I also like to make an all metal setting with conductive sounds to check out these difficult signals.

When you start or work in trashy areas, it is also helpful to use a smaller coil, like the sunray x-5 or 8" coil.

Lastly, swing slowly and enjoy your excellent new detector. Happy new year...

Thanks guys I will try your ideas as soon as I can. We are getting allot of snow on the East coast and it may be a while before I can dig in the dirt. Any suggestions for beach hunting as that is probably where I will be hunting for the next couple of months. Thanks for the good advice given witch I am going to print out so I have when I can dirt hunt.

Thanks again, Keith

Hi Keith, type into google Minelabowners Safari Sounds, this is an excellent video for new Safari users and Andys book is better than the users manual.

Good luck with your Safari.

Best Regards.

Les.
