Need a nut for detector shaft....

bottlebum

New member
I was wondering if anyone can tell me where I can buy the compression nut that is located on the end of an upper rod that secures the bottom shaft?

Thanks
Bottlebum

Several of us have been trying to find a vendor for these other than a detector company but no luck so far.

Your best bet is to go back to your local dealer first and if they don't carry them, go directly to the detector company. Depending on which company and detector model, they may even send you one for free.

Thanks for the reply Jeff. I need one for a project rod that I am working on so really need no particular one. I will try your suggestions.

Try ACE Hardware . I've picked up some screws and wing nuts for repairs & spares.

Hint the black ones seem to hold up better than the white ones.

Thanks for the suggestion Homefires but I just need a nut like the ones already used on detector shafts. I'll probably just rob one off of a donor shaft.

Thanks, bottlebum

I bought six nylon 1/4X20 by 11/2 hex bolts and then went into the adjacent box and bought 6 nylon lock nuts. I could have used wing nuts or end caps as well. Found them at an ACE hardware store in the area where they have specialty fittings of all kinds. It's the area that looks like a bunch of cigar boxes with the contents labeled on the outside.

Thanks for the suggestion but the nut that I am looking for is the one that is attached to the upper shaft and the lower shaft slides through it and then you tighten the nut in order to keep the lower shaft from turning.

I've been looking around for those too, with no luck. I think they're referred to as cam-locks. Please post if you find any. I'll do the same.

Will do....Thanks Hobbes:thumbup:

Here's a good idea. How many of you have one of these in your accessories bag? I do. It's a plastic toilet seat bolt , just in case you loose or break the one that holds the coil to the shaft. Better safe than sorry I say, especially when your out in the field MD'ing

I just bought a new one from detectnick in uk for my sovereign, i lost the little button thingy inside so had to buy the full set but it only cost me a couple of pounds.
its not listed on thier website but if you contact Laura at mailto:sales@detecnicks.co.uk she'll sort you out

You want a CAM Lock....it wil depend on the size of your shaft...if you went with the standard shaft size of any other detector, you should be able to get one from that manufacturer...I know First Texas has them....
