Need advice or opinions on X-terra

Hello,
I have a White's MXT Pro. I have had it for about 2 years, and have a couple of coils. I have mixed feelings about it.

I have a chance at a rarely used (but in very good condition) Minelab X-terra 705, from a supervisor at work.

I had been looking at trying to get a E-trac. I am looking for advice/opinions on picking up the X-terra. I mainly hunt for coins (new and old), jewelry and relics. THE main reason I am looking at the Minelabs is that I hear they are great silver finding machines.

He wants 600 for it and a Fisher pinpointer, I think he is trying to start out high.

Would this be an improvement over the MXT, what would I gain or lose by going to the Xterra?
Thanks for the help

In my opinion they are pretty equal. The 705 has notch discrimination, noise cancel, and the ability to change frequencies albeit coil changes and is lighter. The MXT has a better coil selection. Probably more a matter of brand preference. JMHO.

I absolutely love my 705. It will be like swinging a feather compared to the MXT. I don't have any experience with the MXT but I went to the 705 from a Prizm 6T. The 705 is an excellent versatile machine. It is deep, lightweight, and has a lot of nice features like tracking and auto noise cancel. I have the 5X10" HF DD coil, 6 inch HF DD, and the 10.5 inch MF DD. I use them all for different situations. I want to get a 3Khz coil when possible for deep silver but I have done fine on silver with the other coils. I know the Etrac is a fine machine but they are heavier and have a slower recovery time than the X-terra so they require a slow swing speed. I really don't think I miss much with the X-terra and have hunted one area that I hit really hard with the 6T and found a 1921 D Mercury Dime, 3 quarters, 1 Susan B, and a few pennys that I had missed. I can't swing the heavier machines any more and the 705 has been a Godsend to me !!!

I was hunting with my buddy today who has a MXT, I have the 705. They are pretty comparable. The 705 is ALOT lighter, and the 705 did separate junk better.
I was in your shoes awhile ago. Did some research on both machines. I ended up with the 705.
Also I would tell him to keep that pin pointer and get a Garrett. The Garrett hands down kicked the Fishers butt. My buddy constantly asked me
to use my pin pointer cause his is just not accurate. Offer him $500.00. Wheel and deal my friend. It's a buyers market out there.

The X-Terra 705 is three detectors in one --- that is, it can be used at 3 different frequency's when you swap out coils on it (3kHz, 7.5kHz and 18.75kHz), take a look at Minelab's web site and look up the specs.

As for $600.000 -- a bit high for a used one, offer $475.00 and see, always room to play.

I think I paid $450 for mine on the classifieds. The Fpointer is junk, tell him to keep it and buy a Propointer

Might have been a price increase since I bought mine in Jan., but paid 640.00 for a new one through a sponsor.

If you bought the Gold Pack version, it will come with the 6 X 10 Elliptical DD at 18.75kHz. If you bought the standard model, it comes with a 9-inch concentric at 7.5 kHz. HH Randy

Thanks for the help everyone, I am sure it is the standard model. Still weighing my options, an definintly will discuss his asking price

UPDATE---Well, it has been a while since I posted, I ended up getting it for 450. I pick it up tomorrow. I look forward to getting to use it.

My son just paid $587.77 for brand new x terra 705 from someone who won it in a coin shoot.

I have both. The MXT to heavy for me [ 75 year's young ] LIKE the 705 lite

I've seen 705's go for $450 in great shape. That pinpointer is worth about $1.99 I would choose the 705 over the MXTpro. I love notch discrimination but the 705 has more features and is almost 2 pounds lighter.

Sounds like you got a great deal on the 705. Can't wait to get out with you and see it in action.

$450 is a good price. Good deal for you and you won't be disappointed with the pro pointer.
