Hello All,Need Some Help!! I'm On The Hunt For A New Detector As My Old Gold Bug Has HAD It!! So Can Anyone Tell Me Whats The Best Pick And Why Between The Garrett Infinium And Minelab?? Thanks For Any Help!!! By The Way I,ve Been Metal detecting For 23 - years and I'm STILL broke!!

If you are talking dollar for dollar you might try a used Minelab...if money is no object go for the 4000 and if you really like the goldbug buy another...by the way your name sounds like OZ but your speech sounds US, where are you detecting mostly?

If you're going to hunt in rivers/streams, then the Infinium wins hands down. Personally, I'm waiting for the much vaunted Pulse devil to arrive and, if it doesn't, I'll end up getting another Infinium. They're a lot more rugged than the Minelab PI's and have a better battery setup. Also a lot cheaper. ..Willy.

You might look at the Minelab X-Terras. I have a X-terra 70 and I use it for gold and coins. With the coil selections that come with the Terras, it will find small gold and deep gold. It also is a good deep coin detector.

If you can wait a few months, you might want to take a look at the new Whites that is coming out. It's going to be primarily a prospecting machine but with beach and relic hunting applications. Lighter, better built than the Infinium but not water proof, except for the loops. Large selection of loops, interchangable with Minelab, Nuggetfinder, and Coiltek. Pulse induction and with a more reliabel iron ID. Also cheaper than all the rest, although the exact price hasn't been decided yet.
I'm assuming you are looking for a prospecting only machine and not a multi-purpose coin machine.
It's in the last stages of development as we speak. Hopefully just a few more minor tweaks and it's ready.
Otherwise, I would look for a used Minelab 2100 if you are in a hurry. Or a Goldmaster GMT; very comparable to your Goldbug.

You are welcome and Thanks for the invite, I had a great time in the NT on my last trip but my favorite place is the Marble Bar/Nullagine area...but I have only been down to Oz twice, I hope to see much more of your country some day soon.
