Need HELP with a Sidewinder!!!!

My daughter brought home a friends Tesoro Sidewinder Micro Max and wants me to see if it operates correctly............ (never seen one) The owner has told her that chatters quite a bit. I first noticed that the bolt that attach's the coil to the shaft is metal (appears stock), is this normal for the Tesoro machines? I'm also not at all familiar with this "Retune" feature, what does this do and how doe it work. Any comments or help would be appreciated. The overall condition of the unit appears to be VERY GOOD. Thanks
 
Ahh the metal/nylon coil bolt question. Kind of like asking whats better Ford or Chevy, all depends on who you ask. I have had a number of Tesoro detectors including the Conquistador
 
As far as i know, all the early Tesoros used the metal bolt. I have detectors with that and with the newer plastic/nylon whatever and haven't been able to tell any difference in performance at all. It's easy to drill out the coil ears and change to the newer synthetic bolt if desired, but I haven't found it necessary. As Skiwhiz mentioned, the sensitivity or ground balance setting is most likely the problem.
