Got out for a little while this evening. I found this disk in a CW camp, with writing on it. I am hoping someone recognizes it, and can help me <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> It is app. 22mm round, and 1.2mm thick, and is copper. I cannot make anything out on the other side <img src="/metal/html/frown.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":(">

Here is a negative image of the same item. The writing shows up a little bit better.
Thanks and hh...

Mike,
It's a French Liard, and believe it or not, it probably dates from between the 1650's and the early 1700's. It says "LIARD DE FRANCE" and below that is the mintmark which appears to be an "R" or "B". They turn up here in the US from time to time. I got one, but it much worse than yours is (believe it or not).

I just did an Internet search, and found out it is a 1656 French Liard <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">. This is my oldest coin to date <img src="/metal/html/super.gif" border=0 width=26 height=28 alt=":super">
