Need info about privy detecting....

This is from the local paper "Wanted someone who can find an old purvey. We have a mid-1800s site that we cannot find the outhouses. If you know how to find purveys or have a metal detector call ....."

OK so got my attemtion...how do I find old privies (not purveys hahaha).

Ya need a bottle probe. look for lillacs, and they are almost always down wind. The house did not want to smell it. Probe the ground when you feel less resistance you are on to something. Look for ash to come up on the probe.
Detecting one is too hard. they always have way too much trash in them. Use a sifter!

Pete; use a probe and look for any low depression in the ground.run your probe into the low spot if it goes in fairly easy dig. once you get the hang of it you will be able to find them pretty easy
