Need recommendations or advice regarding large, aftermarket coils for the F75.

Greg (E.Tn)

Well-known member
I have looked at so, so many videos here and there regarding aftermarket big coils on different detectors to get an additional inch or two of depth, while maintaining good discrimination.

Does anyone have any direct observations or experience using larger than stock NEL or other aftermarket coils with the F75?

If so, please reply with your findings in detail.

The reason I am asking, is I am considering several different options regarding detector changes or additions; specifically in the XP or CTX realm.

However, I am beginning to believe that adding or changing some coil preferences with my F-75 (upgraded) is a better choice than completely changing detectors.

Again, I would really appreciate any detailed information regarding field tests, actual use, etc.

I picked up the NEl Tornado for miine, but got it just before the end of the season up here so can't say too much about it. The new Tornado design is just a tad heavier than the 11" biaxial Fisher coil but balances better so I don't feel the extra weight.

Google search findmall for lots of answers

copy and paste tornado+F75 site:findmall.com in google search. Add or change any key words to the search that you like

To date I've never found a coil that performs better than the stock 11" DD coil on the F75 or the LTD.

the stock 5" DD ain't no slouch either.

I posted here awhile back finding a deep stubby Williams Cleaner missing the zinc plug at + 9" or so awhile back. A couple of decades ago, with the old concentric coils, this would have been unheard of. The 5" DD only gave a good one-way signal on it, but after knocking off about 2" of pine needles and an inch of dirt or so, the signal started improving. I say at LEAST 9".

I spend a lot of time digging "iffy" signals, both because I STILL second guess my machine, and because I know that if a target lies at the fringes of the detector's discrimination capability, they give mixed signals, one-way signals, etc..

I figure if there's a aftermarket coil out there that can net me 2-3" in increased depth/discrimination, then that combination, whatever it is, will be hard to beat by any detector on the market.

I have a Russian made 10x14" RIF Ranger DD coil for my F75 but I just use it for the extended ground coverage it provides me, not for any depth increase. I bought it direct from Russia and it only took a little over a week to arrive. I remember being surprised at how fast they shipped and how fast it arrived.

I have had compatibility issues with it. It works fine in Disc mode but I have gotten funny responses in All Metal modes, including constant overload in Static All Metal mode at times.

It is a much bigger antenna so EMI can be more of a factor than might otherwise be encountered.

With all that said, I do like the coil in Disc mode for the use I purchased it for, which was increased ground coverage.

I was thinking about getting the 15 inch coil but it is reported as being way too heavy. Only one way to be sure.

Sorry, just saw your post. I managed to mess up the stock 11" coil by smacking my son's rooster which was attacking me. LOL I replaced it with a NEL Hunter coil which is about 13" x 8 1/2" and although it is heavier, I find it pretty effective in finding coins in trashy areas. I have managed to find silver coins in trashy field filled with iron and other trash where I have hunted many times before.

It is a heavy coil. I got one late fall and got to use it a few times before the weather went south. On well manicured park grass I didn't notice the weight so much because the coil was basically on the ground. Tried using it over soy bean stubble on the farm and found out that having to hold it four inches or so off the ground gets to be a daunting task and gets there pretty quickly.

I used this coil enough to form a base opinion but it will be next spring before I use it enough to really get a real feel for it. In my conditions it does in fact hit deeper, hit two targets in the park in my little town that I quit digging for because I was on the baseball diamond and don't want to get detecting banned in a park that's two hundred yards from my house. Pin pointing is straight forward and given how big the thing is that's surprising. The one thing I found that isn't really a big deal but is worth mentioning is the pinpoint depth is off, quite a bit on smaller targets.
