Need Tejon help ....(a little long)

When I got my machine and went through the indoor air test and ground procedure...I noticed I could not get a steady threshold...all I could get was a sort of wavy threshold...sort of fluctuating is the best I can describe it...and it would change when ever I raised or lowered it....( I'm talking the detector in the air and not lowering it to the ground..I thought it may have to do with the inside surroundings.
Today I went hunting and could not get a steady threshold again...still that wavy effect...and this is at waist high...and if you move it up or down slightly the threshold varies...again the up and down wavy sound...could not get a solid steady hum!...also the threshold seemed to increase and decrease slightly as I moved my hand toward the threshold knob (no watch or rings on)...??? I tried it both in all metal and with the trigger pulled forward. Any of my other detectors once you get a steady threshold you can swing the thing around your head with no variation.
I hope I explained this well enough!!! I ground balanced to this wavy threshold and did find a few coins and old cheap ring...but it's very confusing and I was never sure if I had an optimum G.B. ???? disc seemed to work well and discriminated out targets as set. the VCO pinpoint worked good and is easy to pinpoint with. Hard to G.B. to a threshold that is surging up and down...and increases and decreases as you reach for the knob. any help would be appreciated....hope it's just some stupid thing I'm doing wrong.

I was hunting an old boy scout camp...ground is not to bad...a friend was using a CZ-7a and another the Shadow X5...both could set a steady threshold tone...at waist level they could swing around with no variation...I could not get a steady tone...tried reducing the sens...tried AM and trigger forward...if I moved in any direction (side to side/up and down) the tone would vary and never was stable.
disregarding the threshold and bobbing the coil..it will go Pos & Neg...but never quite sure if I was neutral.
also moving my hand in and out from the face plate...seems to make the the threshold surge...up when close and backs off as I move away ???

New batterys before I left....but I will try another set!!

the connection from coil to the detector. Pull it
out and reinsert it.Make sure batteries are put in
properly. Richard

No silver for me today, although I did manage get 11 wheat pennies that were mostly early dated, & a decent 1906 IH.
Maybe I'll manage to get my coil over some silver on our next hunt.
You & Norm done good today.
Hope you get that situation on your new Tejon figured out soon.
It don't seem right to me at all.
Its a good thing that you had your backup detector with you today.
Wishing you the best with your new Tejon.
Mike

Try it at a diff. site, i had that happen, it was Elect. interferance. HH...BJ

By face plate, I assume you're talking about the plate where the controls are located ? Sounds like the machine is reacting to the induction change from your hand, much like an antenna...
Call Tesoro, they will get you squared away.
John

it doesn't sound like that is the issue here. A pronounced response to hand capacitance is one "white flag."
I would suggest you contact Tesoro regarding service as I am sure it's not acting 'normal.'
By the way, the Sensitivtiy control only functions in the Dic. mode. The All Metal sensitivity is factory-set.

The site I was hunting was a very open area boys camp...there were no power lines around....I put in new batteries ... I double checked to be sure they were in right.
No matter what I tried it would not keep a steady threshold.....just the wavy tone...that would vary considerably with the slightest movement....like it was super, super sensitive.
After playing around a little and checking everything....I decided to forget what the threshold was doing.....I set the threshold to a barely audible sound (all be it wavy and fluctuating) bobbing the coil and adjusting the G.B. I was able to go Pos.& Neg. and did get a Neutral G.B. with out to much of a problem....I started to hunt a little in all metal just to see what was going on....the threshold was constantly wavering and fading in and out...but target response seemed fine.
I set disc #1 to just eliminate small iron nails....I had a couple of small square headed nails that I put down and they were rejected at just a little over the iron setting.
Disc #2 was set to just break up on nickles....which was just about on the 5 cent setting.
I hunted for about 3 hours with it....I dug some clad at anywhere from 2" to 6" and a deep wheaty at about 8"....also a "spoon" ring that was fairly deep....I like the 2 disc system and it seems to work well...pinpointing is easy and all so worked well.
I'm not ready to send it in yet! and want to work with it a few more times before I do anything....I can live with a rough threshold tone if it does not impair the detectors abilities to find targets and go deep.
I'd hate to send it in and have them adjust it to give me a steady threshold at a possible loss of depth or sensitivity....this is my first "Tesoro" product and I think I'll do some more detecting before I rush to any kind of decision.
It sure is a pleasure to swing.
I thank you all for your time and comments...much appreicated.

I think I'm going to give the ole Tejon a few more work out's and see what happens...Hey! I may have a real hot detector here and might want to keep it that way <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock"> Hope we have a chance to get out again before the snow fly's and give her another whirl. Always a pleasure to swing a coil with you my friend.
