Negative Disc Setting

unearth

Member
I'm not sure what the advantage is of having a negative disc setting. I've looked around the internet and have not found a good answer. Is this something that you will just have to play around with, in your area, until you find the correct/good settings. How does negative disc help? All info will be greatly appreciated.

prospecting and micro jewelry hunting I suppose,,,,probably one of those features that really may only pay dividends with the new HF coils

i have been playing with the negative disc for the last couple of days. So far one thing that I have noticed is a lower iron sound. And less choppy. so i have disc at -6.4 and am using the custom program that I have used all along, Andys High Pro coin program from his book. Full tones, 12k, Tx, Sens, Reat are all changed as the site demands. Somehow the detector seems more stable, less choppy. i can hear the low better and all the other tones sound cleaner. i seem to be able to hear everything so much better. all i can say is to put your detector in -6.4 and keep all the settings that you normally use and try it out for yourself. I have used it in modern trashy parks and around old home sites and like it in both sites.

With the -6.4 disc the Deus is noisy..but for me in a very pleasant sort of way. It seems to be more "active" and very responsive to good signals. Iron is noticeably iron but not overwhelming my ears.Good signals are strong and outstanding.

I tried disc at zero and it was way too quiet for me..I'm a believer of disc at -6.4. I read that it will help in detection of meteorites but haven't evaluated that yet I DO have a meteorite to check with!).

PS: my batteries are still going great on the remote and backphones at 6 years and 3 months. I suspect the 9" and 13"x11" coil batteries are also still strong but I use the newer 11" coil more. Very pleased.

Likewise I find the negative discrimination setting very sparky, though the ground noise gets a little tiresome on the lowest setting. I just wind it up a bit to cut out some of the ground noise whilst still allowing a majority of the iron to still register (on the hot program).

In other forums they say that could detect pottery.....Useful if you're looking for ancient places or even for buried pots....

It might have been the site I was on but with the negative disc it seemed that I wasn't getting the wrap around iron high tone that I used to get with 3.2. It seemed that the iron area on the scale is expanded. Again, may have just been my site but I am going to keep playing with it.

Joe... i noticed that too. no iron wrap around. that seems better as that high chirp sounds good for a second and blends in with other high chirps making it easy to miss something. it did drive me a little crazy at one site today but it was good at the others. i kind of like the Hot 9 program. i'm going to work with that a while and see how goes.

Norm = off, 12 kHz (my nickel killing freq for the past 6 years)

Thanks Joe! I'll give it a try, I really hate when wrap around Iron makes me break stride and waste a few extra swings.

Funny you mention the 11x13 coil, I was thinking of buying one. Is it worth the 500 bucks. If it's not worth a durn please tell me your thoughts.
