NEL cable....

Davethejunky

TROLL #2
Any ideas on how to get the fat NEL cable in the groove on the explorer lower rod? Pain in the arse it is.

Actually, the cable is too fat to fit in the groove and I cant get the lower shaft to fit in the upper.

Get a composite lower shaft and feed the cable through it..... OR use WD40 to coat the cable. Then with a thick rag doubled and wrapped around the shaft and the cable,
use Channel Locks to "gently" press the cable into the slot about one inch at the time......Just went through that mounting a NEL Hunter on an XS. YMMV

I use a piece of coat hanger wire..........make it straight.......... the lenght of the shaft................small hook on one end that will hook just below the connector ........................make a loop on the other end to fit your finger...

Works great, no problem pulling the fat fat cable thru without damaging it......

X1 probe alleviates this problem. Also alleviates 2-300 bucks from your wallet....

The probe makes a heavy detector heavier, I used one for years. Looks like I have to pay $70 (each) for 2 more lower carbon rods. Minelab sure knows how to charge for everything. They are the most expensive detector company I have ever seen.

They sure do know something about charging,no doubt. I've found with the x-8 it's not bad,the stock coil or x-12 gets pretty heavy. I'm thinking about just sticking the probe in a belt holder or in my pocket. The Garretts work great, the x-1 is better. Why the fat cable on the NEL? I have to wonder why they felt they had to do that...
