NEL Thunder Coil Test

I decided to try the NEL Thunder coil on my last trip to Florida just to see how it handled the salt water. I was kind of hesitant in buying it because I had tried the NEL Hunter coil which did a terrible job in salt water, it was extremely erratic and unstable.
The Thunder coil measures 14.5" x 10.5" and weighs only 25.1 oz with the coil cover. It glides through the water with ease and goes deep with out any annoying false signals. I liked it so much I painted it florescent yellow and put my connector on it. I think it's a keeper for sure.

I liked the foot print of the NELs...... great review and thanks for the heads up about the smaller one..... WHICH i thought would have been a good choice. Wonder why the difference...... just tuning? Ive tried a lot of different colors Mel....... i went with white.... the Gulf seems to be green more days than not. NOW....... did ya find anything with it?

Thanks for the review Mel.. i just bought one 3 weeks ago which will eventually do some time on the excal.. i tried it out on the sov gt in semi frozen ground but couldn't get a true feel for it in that short a time.... i believe the dealer i purchased mine from said he prefers the hunter coil due to better separation... rumor has it that the early nels suffered performance wise as they weren't tuned for natural saltwater instead they put salt in plastic tubs thinking that would be close enough to conditions on the beach,NOT...

I have one on my Sovereign GT with a Ron's 180 meter and it's definitely my favorite dry/wet sand beach set-up when I run it over on the East Coast after the storms. I put it on and it's been on ever since. Fantastic coverage, great depth, and provides good target separation. it's a perfect design for what I use it for. I have no complaints. One of the cheap stickers washed off after some use but that's not a big deal.
