I watch the classifieds on different forums..never see the 8500 used for sale..No question that a lot were bought when released,,but they just never come up for sale used..Anyone care to take a stab as to why? I just ordered a new one,so if anyone knows somthing please tell.lol

Either people hang on to them or they didn't sell as much as the 8000.

I saw a few on the classifieds shortly after they were introduced. After that, nothing.

Good timing for the post, BigTom. I was just looking at my 8500 telling myself I ought to use it this coming weekend. Probably been 3 months since I last used it as I kind of rotate through my detector collection.

I personally like the 8500. I like the fast DEEP 0 mode in my high EMI environments with the modulated audio tone options, and I like the ability to adjust the audio volume for each segment. I personally like and use the notch features on my detectors. What really makes the 8500 stand out is that I can turn the volume off for the segments I don't to hear yet still see the response on the display. That really helps with jumpy target responses when you use notch discrimination.

Anyway...congrats on your new detector and tell us what you think.

One caution, the D5 full gain audio mode is a real bear and I would recommend you use it sparing to start, maybe just for deep target checking until you get time on the unit.

Well, got up the 8500a few days ago, strapped the tiger coil on it and went for a hunt, about a hour in a local park..some clad, flat button, merc dime..Prtty good macjphine, and can be tailored for just coin shooting.I like it,not sure why we don’t hear more about them.

I love the Omega platform. On my 3rd 8000 as I write this. Tried the 8500 when they first came out and mine seemed to false considerably more then I cared for. One of the modes, however, was really deep. Have often wondered if this inordinate falsing may have been corrected some with the later models. Bigtom, what's your opinion on any excess falsing? On the Tek factory direct web site with coupon the 8500 is a downright great price and seriously thinking of trying another one. Maybe they are a well kept secret. Ha. Nice hunt, by the way. I ran one of the first 8500 made a few years ago,,and I thought it false a lot too..I can honestly say this one don’t false,it runs smooth..Could have been user error on the other 8500 I ran from the first batch,or coulda been a bug in it..I’d like to think it was a glitch they fixed..But I can ripen 60 gain in all mods and hit my 8 inch merc with no problem,I’ve dug a lot of clad lately at 7 to 8 inches easily..I run in mode 1,5 tones and have the volume turned down on every notch but nickels and silver,,it’s quite..Sure it peeps now and again on a piece of metal but I know a coin sound vs a piece of junk coming through...Can’t speak for all 8500 units but I got a good one here..I put my tiger coil up for sale, never been a fan of concentric coils but I am on the 8500.just a light deep coil,I’m confident I’ll get anything the tiger coil would.

Thanks for the info. The 10" concentric is the only coil I have for my 8000 and it is great in trash. Guess I have to give the 8500 another try. HH jim tn

Jim, If ever you buy another 8500, please give us an update. I've been holding up for the longest time after reports of falsing and different audio than the 8000 which I had put up for sale way too fast.

Will do. I have a good 8000 going currently, but the the 8500 bug has bit me. So you know how that goes. HH jim tn

Compared to the 8000,the 8500 has some really cool features.I like the 5 tone which puts the audio gain at Max,no more whisper signals, loud hits untill the edge of detection..And making all notches silent but still open ,really let's coins come thru clear..just a great little machine in the 8500.I use alot of machines, buy, sell and trade quit often..Who knows,if it's something I never used I could be persuaded to trade the 8500.lol..But for now its a fun machine

Yep, there are a lot of usable features packed into the 8500. Don't forget to try Deep 0 with max sensitivity. Deep 0 is great in trash with the modulated audio modes.

Also, the 50 ohm White Prostars headphones work really good with it.
