New 2006 GTI 2500 Comes with the new 9 1/2 Coils!!!

I see that Garrett has come with the NEW 9 1/2 inch Coil and got rid of the old one for 2006....
I guess thats as close to a REplacement we will see from Garrett for awhile on this Detector(gti2500 and gti1500}
Now I am wondering is this machine as good as the Whites DFX now???
I really wanted to but a Replacement for the Garrett GTI2500 or the Whites DFX but I guess i might be leaning towards the Garretts now. What do yea all think?JT

If not, you are never going to find ANYTHING just by talking about it......paralysis by analysis they call it.

You will always find more SWINGING the worst detector on the market than by TALKING about the best one.

FWIW,

Ralph

:stretcher::buds:I think it's about time you get a detector. One or the other will be OK as long as you get one.If not satisfied you could sell them very easily on ebay.So just buy one and go metal detecting its fun and healthy ciao buddy..Ps: lets us know which one you buy and when you get it good luck Johny be good:lol:Ciao Anthony:thumbup:

You an buy a used DFX for about $800.00.If you don't like it,just put it back on ebay.I'll sure you'll get all of your $800 back.I bought a new DFX in 2000 when they came out.Sold it in 2005 for $825 on ebay.Bought a new one for $900.You can't get hurt doing that.I don't know about the resell value of the Garretts.Dave

They both are great machines. Garrett will size an object accurately to about 6-7 inches for size, the DFX will not. Most Garrett GTI users who know their machines well, will tell you that the sizing (imaging) feature allows them to leave lots of junk in the ground.

We have been discussing that for some time now on this and other forums. John has already done a test on one and reported it here. I've had one of the coils for over a month but unable to get out and test it much because it has rained here every day for over a month.

Garrett has no plans to replace the GTI's at the moment as they are still selling quite well, and for good reason, they are dandy detectors. Doubt that you would gain anything with a DFX and the Garretts are much more fun to use.

Bill

I am thinking along the lines of getting a GTI 2500 now since that they come with the Unit and don'r need to buy the Coil...
Glad Uncle Willy knows his stuff,It hard buying a high priced detector when you hear that a new one will come out soon?
Heard the DFX will be replaced soon, but glad garrett is giving out the New coils with their higher priced units might be a beeter deal the a few weeks back when they came with the older coils....JT

I had my Garrett CX3 but someone took it from my garage a month or so ago...But really in the Poconos you really cannot detect much in the winter.
Not a problem affording to buy one, just hate to buy one and in afew months Garrett or Whites will put something better out,Yes I know I can sell it on ebay ,but I hate buying something when someone Emailed me about the Whites DFX will be replaced in the next few months.
So I feel since the weather will not get better, spring will be a great time in buying one.
If I bought the GTI2500 a few weeks back I would have had the older coil...
If i lived in Florida or Calif I would have bought one now.....JT

Geeee you people must live in places where you can detect all year round?
If I buy a Garrett or Whites today I still cannot use it till Spring...
Only thing is holding me up is
1st when I called KellyCo up and the Person told me that the GTI is not as good as the DFX for small Nuggets..
2nd Others say that the Cheaper Whites M6 is better at picking up Nuggetts
I am not looking at cheaper....
3rd someone Emailed me and said the the DFX replacement is going to be soon.
Yea know its a bit confusing because when I bought my CX3 they didnot have the internet.
I just bought a 2006 Mustang GT,,,,,wanted to get a GTO but it takes a little comparing and shopping to see whats around the corner and what yea really like instead of just jumping in...JT..........

Yeah it's tough making a decision on a big bucks detector. You'll like the detector and the new coil. Since Garrett plans to keep the GTI's for awhile they decided to put a better coil on them. I field tested the first GTI - the GTI 2000 back in 1997 and they've been a big seller ever since. No need to mess with success.

Also, is this your first detector?

Bill

Ohhh yea if I wanted used i can go to ebay and get a referb for $400 now....Thank yea for yea time i am learning alot and trust me I am not affraid of buying one.....Hummmm $400 for a referb? lollll
I just bought about $150 in old treasure magazines from LOST to Western and Eastern tresures magazines form the 70s - 90s.Geeee I must have at leat 200 Magazines i must read lol....Thanks JT

Should have found yourself a mint 64 GTO if you really wanted to roar.:) When I was a young feller I used to work for some car dealers that often picked up "moonshiner" rigs and did I have a ball tooling around in those. We had a Chrysler moonshiner rig in one time that would do over 180 MPH and that was over 40 years ago. Had a buddy who used to run moonshine and he taught me some valuable driving tricks, like "spot parking" and executing a "180" while driving down the highway at 65-70 MPH.

Bill

Well Bill I had a CX3 since early 90s the one that talks to yeaaaaa.
Someone took it from my Garage a month or so ago.Now I just retired at 48 and want to do something with my time instead of doing nothing...
Bought a $2000 treadmill last year and i really don't use it so i thinking outdoors with a detector
I am leaning for the GTI 2500 when the weather gets better aroung march or april....
Only reason is someone Emailed me and said wait for the DFX replacement as long as I can,and since I cannot detect now in the winter I might as well wait and see what happens in 2 months....
If nothing happens i will get the GTI2500,since they put a new coil on it...JT

Hey happy retirement. Detecting is the thing to do and you got a lot of years left. I'm still swinging and I started in 1963 at a time when I had never heard of a detector ( and there weren't many around ), but I got hooked fast.

If you had a CX you'll have no problems with the 2500. Good luck.

Bill

I have a FEW mopars
1970 Hemi Challanger 1 of 2 that was ever made{its a EXPORT car]Was thinking of selling it for around $200,000+ but now i took it off the market lol
had owned 2 1970 superbirds 440 sixpacks,,,Just sold one and the guy that just bought the $2 million dollar 1970 Hemi Cuda off of Barrett Jackson just bought one of my birds lol....
Was going to sell a 1969 1/2 Superbee 440 sixpack for $90,000 but saw a ugly one on barrett jackson sold for $200,000....
So really a couple of hundred dollars on a detector does not reallt matter lol...Its just wanting to get the best before the weather gets better....Thansk JT

Sounds like you have an interesting and profitable hobby. Yeah some of those Mopars are worth some big bucks. One of my writer buddies ( Ken Weinman ) recently sold his Elvis Cadillac to Ceasars Palace in Vegas for a fortune. He paid his house off with part of it. For years he rented it out to the casinos for display. Now he has a book out and Hollywood wants to do a movie based on one of his stories. He's always stumbling across something that makes a ton of money.

I'd wait on those Mopars as they are an investment and will only increase in value. Wish I had saved a few of my oldies but who knew. One especially I wish I would have saved was my 39 LaSalle Opera Coupe. Last time I looked they weren't even listed in Hemmings. In all the years I went to the classic car shows I never ran across one.

Wasn't really discussing what something is worth in regards to detectors as money is just a rate of exchange and a big price guarantees nothing. It's like designer clothes. Yuppies pay big bucks for them and they are all made in a third world country by employees earning 12-18 cents an hour and most of them are made right alongside the stuff made for K-Mart and Wal-Mart. Just the labels sown in denotes the difference. A pair of $250 Nike shoes costs Phil Knight a $1.50 to put out the door in his plants in Vietr Nam where the employees earn $50 per month with no benefits.

I've used about every big buck detector out there and there ain't a nickels worth of difference between any of them performance wise. The key word in metal detector is "metal" and any of them will find it.

Some just have more features than others. I can find as much stuff with my 250 as I can find with my Fisher, 2500, X5, etc. There is no such thing as the "best" detector as it doesn't exist. The best detector is the one that is best for you regardless of price. If you can find a slew of coins and goodies with a pie pan attached to a broom handle then that is the best. Good luck in your selection.

Have you advertised your Mopars on Ebay? Few weeks ago a guy sold a brussel sprout left over from his last dinner for $2400 on Ebay. What can I say.

Bill

Bill that was good, I liked the part about the brussel sprout, got a good laugh out of that.

I was planing on taking the 250 to the beach this morning,( for the first time out with it) but got allot of rain coming in, hopefully the weather will clear soon.

Again got a good laugh out of the brussel sprout!! Thanks and HH, Bernie
