should last a while and given it's Composition: 88.5% Cu 6% ZN 3.5% MN 2% Ni.the Explorer will find them really easily. It must be the polished finish that makes it seem like it's coated with gold.
The Aussie 1 and two dollar coins Composition: 92%Copper, 6%Aluminium, 2%Nickel.
Audio wise, they sound different to each other and the Explorer sees and shows them as two differing targets, but you can almost be certain that you have found one over a majority of junk targets(certain aluminum bottle caps excepted).
The metal composition of the new US dollar coins, is quite unique and it will probably be very pronounced, when using both tone and/or visual target id of the Explorer or any other detector that is measuring the targets metal make up and letting you know that it's there, in amongst all the junk or at a depth.
What this also means and in my opinion(given that I have yet to see how the Explorer comes up on the new US dollar coin) is that at least the coin was not made out of a "nothing junk" metal, that may have shown up as a pull tab maybe( real gold Sovereigns and the like excluded ).
It's a pretty sophisticated type of alloy that I think had a lot of thought put into it, when they made them.
On another note, I recall years back in 1991, when I worked with a big Australasian vending machine company, had just engaged in a new standard and technology of coin mechanisms that used a multiple of methods to determine if the coin that was being put into the slot of the vending machines was legal tender and not a dud coin. This was mainly due to unscrupulous use of dud slug coins and other methods to gain credits from vending and games machines that used the old coin mechanisms that were only measuring and determining if a coin was made of iron or if it were round and it's weight. To an extent, they were correct in being able to do this but, unfortunately, the coin mechanisms were being easily tripped with whipper snipper cord or the electronics of the spark that modern gas lighting wands and piezzo shock generator/igniter circuits made(static electric spark in form or another). were tricking the then electronic logic , that gave credits or returned change.
My job, at one stage was to "trick" the new coin mechanisms to accept junk currency which they WILL If you know what to do.........BUT that's another story.
The newer generation coin mechanisms in the vending machines were now measuring the size, the weight, inductance and the conductivity of the coins that were put in.
I believe that there is now also some form of visual d/scrutiny
basically a miniature camera incorporated into the electronics) as well used that is used the more recent versions of coin mechanisms in many vending machines.
Given that the new US 1 dollar coins also have edge lettering , this may be what is also being observed when coin id rolled into a slot.(My theory)
So the casinos and the many other industries that rely on the public putting in some sort of currency are now sitting very pretty and very safe when it comes to counting taking and giving us currency in a form that is more conducive and safe to all..........maybe.
