New 5X8 coil versus the 4.5 super sniper coil?

As a complete ignoramus on the subject, I am quite curious about these two coils, and their uses. I understand that the DD coils have a search pattern shaped roughly like a round knife blade, and that the concentric coils have a larger, but less concentrated search pattern shaped roughly like a hemisphere. In terms of getting next to objects, the end of the DD coil seems (in the charts I have seen) to drop a little more vertically than the side of the concentric coil's search pattern. Does this mean that the toe of the 5x8 pattern will get closer to trees and poles?

I guess we will have to wait for the release of the new AT Gold, and the 4.5 Super sniper for some real-life tests, but does anyone have any experience with other brands that have similar coil choices?

Many thanks,
John Morton

I have used the sniper coil often on both the ACE series and the GTI series. Excellent depth for it'd size. excellent sensitivity on smaller then coin sized objects. Excellent abilities to hunt almost next to a chain link fence, playground equipment and sidewalks with rebar. It also works well in areas where bushes are starting to grow in previous good locations. The coil is small enough to move around tight places.

Below is a PDF article from Garrett on search coils.....
